You could get a Will Rack receiver and than tote two bicycles and have empty seats other than your own. I had one for my Boxster S and plan to get one for my 996.

Good luck - these are hard to find. I looked for about 2 years before I found mine for my 996! The guy was only selling it because he didn't know it was compatible with the new 997 he had just bought...

They're available through the dealer, not very expensive. Also, if you have a pre-2001 car, make sure the screws on the roof are removable. I sold one of my previous MK1 cars in part b/c not having a roof rack was a deal breaker and the placeholder screws were fused in place.
