Default Cabrio top coming apart inside

I searched for this topic but couldn't find anything. The inside of the rearmost pillar (B pillar I guess) on the soft top is coming apart. What I mean is that I can see the some of the metal bits exposed. It seems like the fabric was glued to metal, but has melted off. This causes two things. 1. It looks ragged. 2. (more importantly) the fabric is jamming and catching when I lower the top.

Anyone have this happen before? I'm more inclined to do mechanical things, then upholstery, so I may have the dealer look at it. I'm just worried that the estimate will be very expensive just to glue some fabric back where it should be.

I'll try and get some pics and post them. I realize it may be hard to visualize what I am talking about. Thanks.

I had a similar problem and looked at buying a NEW complete headliner but overall cost (part & labor) put a damper on that option. Luckily for me, my local P-car indy recommended an auto upholstery shop just across from him who is their GO-TO guy.

The shop removed the ripped piece and used it as a template to fab a replacement panel. Cost me $150 (parts & labor) although fabric is not 100% exact match......but I am not complaining

Quick update - after spending $50 at an upholstery shop recommended by both area Porsche dealers, everything seems great.

I had the same thing and had a good local upholstery shop do the fix for about $150. The Porsche dealer I bought the car from several months before stepped up and paid me back for the repair - Weissach Porcshe in Vancouver are very good guys!!

Hi Fanny Bay r1,

I just found this thread and my cabrio top is having the same issue. Do you happen to remember the name of the upholstery shop in Vancouver?

thanks!

I got some really heavy duty self adhesive velcro and glued it to the frame. I then stretched the flap an reaffixed it on the new velcro. I think the rips you see are factory cuts and covered when the flap is put back in its position.

Hello,
What kind of glue did you use. I still have the Velcro but it seems the existing adhesive isn't holding anymore.

Thanks.

I cleaned off the old glue and used the self adhesive on the HD Velcro. You can also wrap the Velcro onto the frame with small zip ties to keep it in place if the glue fails.

I have a tiny tear in the middle of my top almost dead center...tiny, but you know what it means. Any suggestions on how to fix this or ....has anyone replaced their top and how much it cost?

Sorry just saw your post -- it was Eldorado Upholstery in Courtenay on the Island.

My top is fine, but like other posters here, my headliner has issues. I have asked both on RL and RT about replacing just the headliner, but have not had any responses. For now, I am using purple glue to keep the headliner attached to the frame in the rear corners. That appears to be a definite weak spot. Another month and the top will be down 24/7 until next July.
