Lets talk head lamp surgery
My head lamps are burnt, I just won a clear set on ebay that are not burnt but one has a cracked outter lens.
Has anyone ever taken the outter lens off the assembly? if so... Have any hints or tricks? My plan is to make two good lenses out of these 4 lenses.
Thanks for the input.

Kyle I bought about 6 sets of headlights trying to kludge together some crap - in the end I bought a good set - it was a lot less trouble
you can bake the lights at about 250 in the oven and keep checking every couple minutes, the front lens will come off - re-attach with sealant from a tube like black rubber window stuff

Thanks Ed. I ended up with these broken ones by accident.... I bid... then saw they were broke, wanted to retract.. Phone rang.. GF started messing around.... Forgot about bid.. woke up this morning and I own them. This is the same damn way I ended up with car and my Rolex. The car, I thought I put in a low ball bid and thought I would get out bid.. And thats how you fine folks got blesses with Shark Attack. The rolex,, I just had a few too many to drink that nite.

well I will experoment on the broken one.. 250 degrees... too hot to handle.. this should be fun, Heat it up to the point you cant touch it.. Then touch it to remove the outter lens....
I will let you know how I make out.

I assume only the inner lens is burnt......
should be an easy swap - the light doesnt have to reach 250 - just the oven...the lens will "release" at some temp lower then 250 - maybe 175 - so watch it, dont force it.....practice on the cracked one

I hear you set tempt to 250 then when it reaches that temp turn it off and place lights in oven for 3 min. I've got a set of litronics with one off the track I've been meaning to do.

One of the ex local vw guys that does custom head lights. He does good work and should be able to help.

I've opened/modified my fair share of headlights. Personally, I keep the temp a little lower, more along the lines of 215 degrees. Also, be sure to pre-heat the oven, the burner will torch the housings if you put them in there and then turn on the oven. Usually, 10 minutes or so should be long enough.
If you have a heat gun, keep that handy to keep things warm while you work the headlights apart as they will often cool pretty quickly.
