Default Help indentifying radar detector

My 2000 C4 has radar detector which was apparently installed prior to 2001. I'm looking for suggestion of the make I'll post pics later.
Visually all you can see is two red lights between the heated seat buttons in the lower dash.
There is also a small rotary switch volume and co axialy mounted on center off switch with two settings up and down? The switch is mounted in the side of the transmission tunnel through the carpet.
I'm looking for ideas of the manufacturer so I can track down a user manual.
It seems to work well

I'd guess it's a K40, but the pics might help...

It sound like its a K40, I just ripped what remained of one out of my car. The triangular small panel where the volume control module comes through the carpet comes away very easily. Take hold of the left side and pull and you will see the mass of wires inside going to the actual volume controller. It will tell you the name of the radar on that piece.

BTW feel under the dash at the steering wheel and see do you feel two small diods stuck there on the under side of the dash. If it is a K40 it probably has a front and rear detector in the car. The reason I mention this is that the two red lights in front of gear stick indicate if the gun is to the front or rear of the car. You would have to know which is which. Also more info is:- a lighter coloured car is easier to detect than a dark car. The cops shine the gun at the head lights or the number plate or the car itself. A darker surface takes them longer to detect but only by seconds. A light coloured car will reflect the signal back at them quicker. I give you that info in case you can't get hold of a users manual. I hope you don't have a radar jammer as that carries a penalty of a very heavy fine or prison sentance. Hopefully it will say on the volume module 'undetectable' as some states make a radar detector against the law.

Green is hwy and Yellow is city indicated on one of the leds. There should be a small dial switch that turns which controls that and the volume.

Default Photos of K40

So finally pics of the K40. The detector on the front say K40 but no model number is visible. The best I can tell it was installed prior to 2001.
My main question now is how do I tell which setting (high way - town) is which i.e. Clockwise or counter clockwise?
The second pic is of the two red lights in front of the shifter.

Drive past Kmart or Wally world or somewhere in town where you know the alarm will alert for their electric doors. Watch which lights up. Then switch over and drive past the same place. It should NOT alert this time and then you know which is which, Highway or Town. Highway alerts for everything. Well it does on my COBRA. BTW I can see the twisting **** is identical to the one I ripped out as my detector was not working. BUT next to mine was another very small push type silver coloured metal pusher. I never knew what that was used for but obviuosly had something to do with the alarm system in my car. Anyway to see whats behind the twisty dial, Take hold of that panel on the left which is holding that ****, One quick pull and slide the panel out to the left and you are then looking at all the soldered wiring going from the bck of that control unit/switch to the red lights at your gear stick and from the switch off towards the front of the car via the steering column and through the bulk head to the front alerter. On the back of the switch it will tell you exactly what version of K40 you have, either a 2000 or as mine was 3000. Undetectable.

My K40 left dash light indicates front radar dector, right is rear.
I discovered the rear dector installed in the drivers side tail light housing. The front detector should be installed in the front bumper opening.
My only complaint with the old K40 (installed in 2000) is it is overly sensitive.
Everything sets it off. I drove around for a month or so with my Passport to verify the K40 actually picks up police radar. It does, along with everything else.
I think a Passport, Valentine is better, but not as stealth as the K40.
Just my 2 cents!

My car has a k40, and I find its range is very limited. I had an old cobra thats about 10 yrs old and it had much better detection range.
