Interesting Perspective--Cost of Maintenance

Ok, for starters, a 2005 Jag S-Type is not worth that much currently. I do not know what it cost in 2005, but I'm guessing not a lot. I think they ran with the Ford derived engine and had cheap bits for interiors. From what I have heard and read, the XK models, esp after a revamp in 2007 are nice.
Considering that a 911 was and is an expensive car to buy when new, us 996 owners got a good bargain in terms of buying costs. But maintenance costs remain the same - and I think most of us here knew that before jumping in. When I bought my 996 a year ago, my friend bought a Nissan Altima new and he paid slightly more than what I did for my car. And I have spent considerably more than him on maintaining/upgrading my car. Still, I'm sure all of us here would agree that the joy one gets from driving a Porsche can never be compared with a regular cheap-to-maintain car.
An exaggerated example would be that its possible to buy a late 80s Ferrari Mondial (not the best one from Ferrari) for around 30 grand. But your street-end mechanic might not know anything about performing repairs on the car - which means you either need to head to the dealership or to specialised shops - expensive in either case.

Neither of my Porsches visit the shop frequently. That being said, I'm thrilled when the final bill is less than four figures for either of them when they do visit!

+1 on that, but who really cares it is only money and I can make more.

You do have a different sense of cheap repair bill after you own one of these. We have two other Hondas and one toyota and a cheap bill on the 911 would be a real expensive one on the others. Heck, they might even get traded in if the repairs were that high on the others.

If I were rich in england barreling down the british country roads with an old jaguar in dry, wet and or foggy weather I'd for sure think having that extra nose sticking out would be excellent. After plowing into a country cottage the long front end is perfect to drink tea off of waiting for a tow truck.

Maybe I need to get a jag... Everything in my stable leaves you woosy post service. Lol! I love em though! Is jag regular service any better than bmw or Benz though?
Some of the new Jags are super nice. I always check em out when I stop by my RR dealer.

The only cars that I NEVER EVER worried about were my NSX, Landcruiser, and SC430. The landcruiser and the SC never had any issues whatsoever, and the NSX was 10x more reliable and offered 100x the peace of mind (in terms of reliability) than my 996 even though it had 4x the mileage and was more than 13 years old at the time. That's one car I regret selling..... Just to give you guys an idea, my 1999 996 coupe just crossed 30k miles and in the last 3 years and 5k miles of ownership I've spent about $10k in maintenance & repairs, and that's not including upgrades, which would probably run another $10k. Now granted, that $10k figure includes a lot of preventative maintenance like IMS, RMS, plugs, water pump, etc., but still...... Not to mention that my 996 has been flat bedded into the shop more times than I can remember. I know it's too late but I wish I could have my Japanese cars back......

Three Wheelin'
floor mats disintegrate
headliner sag
wood trim cracked & discolored - replaced under warranty
I mashed the oil cooler into the ground
windows don't always return to their proper position (similar to 996)
I have been trying to talk her into the new timing chain tensioners, which she hasn't done. It seems to be the only true part of the car that needs to be upgraded. The newer cars obviously don't need the upgrade, so I assume that they are even better than hers.
For the price they can be had at, it's a great car
oh, said oil cooler slaughtering
