Why was the decision made to go from the 930 powerplant (dry-sumped, Metzger based, already proven to be a solid platform for ~600hp+), and put in an M96?

I love it but they are using 10w-40 so this thing is toast anyway.

@Bisimoto - What do you charge to convert a stock M96 engine to the goodies (under sections "Power Plant", "Turbo System", "Engine Mgmt/Elec.") above?

Careful!

HONER: A slang, somewhat derogatory, word for a Japanese person. Derived from the Japanese word for a Japanese person: Nihonjin.

Yes, sir. The IMS bearing and cylinder sleeves (weak points of the M96 engine) were addressed.

Great question. I am a huge fan of the classic bodied 911, and also an advocate of the latest technology. The M96 head ports are fantastic in flow and design configuration, and lend themselves to excellent power opportunities, even at low boost levels. The combustion chamber is appealing in its pent roof design, and the simple variocam system allows for a torque broadened powerband.
It was my goal to merge the old with the new: fully built M96 engine, with a 997 gearbox, full drive by wire, CAN-BUS protocol and an air cooled chassis. The car dries beautifully, on and off the track, and is one of my most gratifying projects to date. I hope that helps. Thanks.

LOL. Far from it, with over 12,000 hard miles on the powerplant. The lubricant compound I use is derived from the aerospace industry, and has presented amazing protection even at the viscosity level I used. No need for me to go to a 20w50 with associated parasitic losses. Thanks.

Thank you for the kind words everyone, I will have to dig up a dyno chart to share. However, here is a video of the dyno tune at lower boost levels. This full throttle sweep produced 648whp and 461ft/lbs!

I've followed this car in many articles so far. Congrats on the beast and not taking the easy way with a factory turbo motor. Glad you are getting some good recognition.
