New Stable Mate - OT
re-posting from PP:
Actually ... I dont think a driveway is technically called a "stable" - but last weekend after a healthy search I picked up this:
1988 325e
Super eta 2.7 storker
Euro Delivery
138k miles on the clock
This is for my son, he is approaching driving age and we just found it a little sooner than expected - so got it. I have been driving it to work and will shake it down over the next few days (365 or so )
drives like a dream - I'm absolutely loving the car
some basic base line maintenance items will be taken care of this week and I will run it through PCA and BMW tech "just in case" it happens to find its way down to the track *thinking of signing up in low intermediate for the next DE and just going out and having some fun
I have to say, this is a really fun car to drive.....I'm lovin it!
Anyhow - sorry for OT
just wanted to help explain some of my missing time lately - all the best!!!

Nice work! Glad you're teaching him to drive a manual transmission. I did the same thing with my boys. They make fun of me because I still tend to call it a "standard transmission". They like to remind me that it's not really standard anymore...

This car is clean Ed. I love E30s and this car has plenty of power. They are easy to work on too and the I6 is solid.
I have a hard time getting rid of my 325XI so have been throwing stupid maintenance at it than trying to be rational. They are such great cars prior to the IDrive debacle....

Thanks Chao, its missing the front splitter (on order) and other than some door dings its pretty clean - the truck has never seen any moisture (rare option!)
last night I took him out and he "drove" in a parking lot for about 1/2 hour - his first time driving anything aside from rolling the suburban back and forth in the driveway so it was a big step in a very different vehicle
he did very well
his plans are to "become a better than average driver" - he wants to attend driver skills clinics for 2 years and then DE the car when he turns 18 (legal DE age) - no plans to be a racer or even become a top tier driver, just have good situation awareness and solid car control skills

I remember those days, I learned on a 81' Diesel Rabbit that could barely get out of its way, but it was a great first car. Glad to hear did a good job last night, he's going to love it. Great first car purchase

The interior looks super clean. The driver's seat looks new!

This sounds stupid, but buy an OEM ZHP shift ****. I put one in my E36M3 and the shift feel was completely different. I've never hand that feeling from swapping a ****.

Great looking car. Interior is very clean considering the age. And its awesome you are teaching your son to drive a manual. Little early for my boys 8 and 3, but it will happen when they are old enough!
Enjoy

As others are saying, really clean looking car. Driving a manual transmission is quickly becoming one of the forgotten skills.
The new stuff may have some advantages but "new and improved" is not always better. A very nice car that if respected and maintained should be a great teacher of car control.

Beautiful car! Can't believe it's going on 25 years old. My brother in law had an identical model back in the day and it was a lot of fun.
I have a 15 year old son that can't wait to start driving. I've had him driving our manual TL up and down the driveway and he thinks he is the coolest kid in the 'hood.
