Question Trailering 2003 911 Targa.

Has anyone any advice on trailering (NOT tow dolley). U-haul and Budget have dire warnings about clearance, tire width, etc. Doesn't appear to be any place to chain down to the frame....etc. Please advise and thanks. TJ

U-Haul trailers use the straps that go over the wheels, no chains. I towed my Volvo wagon from Cali to Texas using one. My Volvo was also lowered.

I trailered my 02 Boxster from Blue Springs MO to Hayward CA with a rented 18' moving van pulling a rental car trailer.

I made sure the car would get on the trailer without any problems/clearance issues. I was prepared to get boards to help the clearance but none were necessary.

I had the person at the rental yard school me in properly securing the car -- webbing over the front tires and a safety chain over some rear suspension/drivetrain hardware.

He also schooled me in how to properly connect the trailer to the truck hitch and how to hook up the safety towing chain and lights.

He also told me about inspection stations and weigh stations.

Be sure your insurance covers the car on the trailer against all risk from accident, losing the trailer, theft, etc.

Watch your speed and clearances. At every stop check trailer tires for any signs of low pressure.

I took it slow and had no problems.

Would love to see pictures of your Targa on the "How many 996 Targa Owners out there?" thread!

My trailering experiences line up with Macster and Prosche-t. Webbing goes over either the front tires or both the front and rear. Then you can hook up over the rear suspension if necessary.

My buddy would routinely rent a Uhaul trailer to bring his 993 C2s to the track. Never had any issues, whatsoever. A lot of common sense, patience and the right tow vehicle and you should be fine.
