1-owner 268k miles 996 with no failures!
Saw this 996 this morning, not mine but for those that say a 996 (and an early 996 at that) are unreliable here is a great testament: http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/cto/4454774937.html

I just thought it was cool that one person enjoyed it that much, hasn't had any of the typical major issues and still has the original clutch. To me I wouldn't buy it for almost anything because you can buy an under 100k mile example in the teens so why buy this one? Just congrats to the owner, even if he gave it away he definitely got his $$ worth.

The really impressive thing is the original clutch. I don't think I have ever heard of a clutch going 268,000 miles.
They guy has put about 17,000 miles a year on the car and claims to have all the maintenance records. Move evidence for my theory that most of the problems with these cars were cars that were either not properly maintained and or were not regularly driven.

As far as value goes, what would this car be worth with a brand new engine? I will take a SWAG and say $24,000. What would a new engine or proper rebuild cost? Could you get a rebuild for $12k? If so, I would guess $14K would be a fair price. You figure the engine isn't dead yet and might not die for who knows how long. If it is worth $12,000 with a dead engine, the engine running fine, even with 268K miles on it is worth a couple of thousand anyway.

Car drove 19k miles per year, obviously a commuter car. Surprise, surprise...a commuter Porsche has commuter miles and runs just fine.

If the variocam pads haven't been changed yet, they are about ready to wear through and casue some serious problems. That's about the first thing I would do to this car.

That's awesome. Honestly that's 200k more than I have on my car right now. If mine lasted to 268k with only wear and tear maintenance I wouldn't care if I could only get $5k for it.

I think this is a $10K car. If the owner didn't change anything then evrrything is close to needing change. When an owner thinks bragging how little they spent on a car is a selling point, well, they are greatly mistaken.

That's a good point. Come to think of it a low mileage roller might make more sense than this because seriously even if the motor holds out for another 100k you have everything else to worry about not to mention the overall condition in and out. A motor less 40k car that's mint in and out for $5-$7k would probably make more sense.
