Radar detectors and collision radar
Hi,
Is any body else getting 'false' readings on the radar detectors for newer cars with collision avoidance systems?
I've read articles in magazines suggesting that it doesn't happen, but I get a lot of readings on the highway when close to newer BMW's and Audi's.
The 'proof' recently was when a comcast van parked in front of me as soon as his reverse lights went on the detector started chirping when they went out it stopped.
I have what I think is a K40 which was installed when I bought the vehicle it has worked well but I have no info on it ie age etc.

Yes I've noticed the same with my passport detector. I get K band alerts. I could disable K band (as I have done with X band) but some law enforcement in my area still uses K band rather than Ka or laser.

I believe that is the blind spot detection systems that you are picking up.
I know new Cayenne owners with LCA have their detectors go nuts, but I believe the V1 has an upgrade that addresses this (don't know for sure as I don't get many false alarms, but I've read about people being happy after upgrading their unit).

The V1 does indeed have a firmware update that blocks false K-band alerts from traffic flow monitoring systems, which also seems to filter out most falses from other vehicles in my experience. I believe this update became available 1-2 years ago. I've had good results with it.
Laser alerts from Infinitis and others with front collision detection systems still come through however.

I can pick up an old person in a caddy with lane-departure radar from a mile away.
Thankfully, most of the CHP I see around here are still using KA, so I don't worry about the laser alerts so much, but I leave them on just the same.
The K-band false alerts I get are almost always from the roadside "you're driving too fast" trailers that attempt to shame you by displaying your speed. I see each of these as a challenge to see how many digits the sign can display...

I constantly get false laser alarm signals on both my Passport 8500 and my Passport SRX. On the SRX it will display the "LASER" alarm until I shut it off and then turn it back on.
