Default Two Great Mods!

Just installed a 997 ssk and a DCT steering wheel today. Feels like a different car! During the ssk install, I counted the threads and marked the cables before removing the old shifter. But instead of installing the new one like the old one came out, I used the the alignment tool that comes with the ssk instead. The interesting part is that the alignment tool had me set it up several threads differently than how the old one was set up. I was skeptical but it works great. I'm very happy with the results.

How short is the throw? Is it similar to other aftermarket ssk's.

It says it about 33 - 35% and that feels about right. Everything is tighter. It feels like you are directly attached to the top of the tranny as opposed to using cables.

I don't have _that_ wheel, but moving from the 4-spoke wheel to a 3-spoke wheel with thumb bolsters was a great improvement. Nice upgrades!

Got the same wheel installed this summer. What a big difference, the smaller size of the wheel and thicker rim makes you feel like you are driving something different.

How about a Hyundai Sonata? Every car and their grandma's car these days seem to come with one. Yes I'm talking about a flat bottom thick steering wheel stock on a 4dr Hyundai...

OP, how come you didn't match up the color?

Are you planning on leaving the airbag as a different color that doesn't match the rest of the wheel?

I'd like to change my steering wheel but I don't really want to spend $1k on a new airbag just to replace the leather on top of it...any way to just replace the leather?

The gray airbag is from my original wheel. I was going to change the airbag/cover to black to match the wheel but after putting it on I like it. It looks much better in person and the interior is a mixture of gray and black already.

ehhh...I don't know...seems sort of sketchy. I'm curious if you can just get the leather piece that covers the airbag...

I didn't get the SSK yet, but I did something similar with the wheel. Mine is Savannah Beige with a black airbag, matching the black console I already have.

Now I just have to find some black wrap to cover up the wood trim, since it's cracked anyway.

Messing with the airbag cover isn't really a good idea - the cover is designed to blow apart if the bag is deployed, so it's important that the tabs holding the cover onto the airbag cartridge aren't loosened. You wouldn't want to get hit in the face by the cover if it came off whole instead of blowing open.

For the same reasons, you don't want to put vinyl/faux carbon fiber over the airbag unit...

Good point and that makes a lot of sense...I guess a used airbag is the only option
