The price of the roller projects will always be dictated by the cost of the replacement of the engine (let's assume they have a blown engine). So if the cost of the used engines or rebuilds goes up with the value of the 996, the roller prices will remain the same.

My thinking is different. With more engine rebuild alternatives at different price points, it's more likely an owner will be willing to rebuild his/her car as opposed to dumping the roller. Also, the RND route allows someone to buy a 997 roller, add an RND engine and still come up ahead of a used 997 (I think it's unlikely for 996 though). Both will deplete the roller inventory in the market. Supply goes down so price should go up. Just my 2 cents.

Ok but if you are buying a roller with a blown engine, it needs to be discounted more than the cost of the engine. Since the transmission, clutch AC or pretty much anything else can't be tested, there needs to be a discount for that too. Maybe they will go up in value but I don't see any sign of it yet.

I think the idea that the 997s and 996s are the last "driver's cars" in the 911 line will either preserve values (997s) or increase them (996s).
10-12 years ago, 964s and 930s were practically worthless, I've seen some of them sell for $3k for a rough example. Now the same car is going for $10-15k.

We've seen the bottom of the 996 market I am fairly sure... I see more and more people keeping their cars and "restorations" have begun for the 996 already.
FWIW I prefer the 996 over the 997.

You won't find a 964 that's rough for less than 20k today... I sold my 930 last year and wish I would have kept it. Been trying to find another that's a little rough but haven't had any luck at all.

Ok guys let's get this back on track. A strong rumor has the car being loaded tomorrow and delivered on Thursday. I'm traveling tomorrow so the timing is perfect. Pics to follow.
BTW.....I sold a 1967 911 with a 2.7 in it for 9K 9 years ago I can only imagine what its worth today. I also sold a 1986 Carrera black on black with a whale tail and front spoiler 6 years ago for 19K. I'd trade my left nut to get these back.

On the air cooled - sold my 1968 911 for $3k to an uncle decades ago, missed it as soon as he drove off in it. He kept it in the family and my cousin still owns it.

Years ago when I first talked to Jake he told me about personally driving all the cars/engines that went out of his shop to assure driveability.
Glad to hear he is still doing that.
Tough job Jake, playing with toys others paid for <grin>.
