What was your first car?

I bought a '69 Dodge Charger R/T SE in 1984 as my 1st car.
It was white with a tan vinyl top, tan leather interior. It was actually quite loaded with options for those days.
Had the 440 and a posi-traction rear end.
I could not keep the tires from spinning in that thing. It was nearly undriveable in the rain.........or maybe I was too young then to drive sanely.
It made my '89 Mustang GT feel pretty tame when I bought it new 5 years later, but that was the quickest new car sold in those days (at least among reasonably priced cars).

Race Car
Resurrecting this thread as I came across some pics of the car I learned to drive on, a 1957 VW and my first car, a 1972 340 Duster (after I did some major work on it through high school). After the Duster was finished in 1985, I took it around to events like Street Machine nationals and won a first in class at the World of Wheels show in Philadelphia.
Yup, that's me with the 1979 long hair on the passenger side with my Dad.

Parents were here planning on moving back to Portugal. Bought a Renault 12 to take back as cars were heavily taxed in Portugal. Never moved back. I drove one for 18 months.....Then at 19, got a brand new Mustang coupe 1988.
Believe it or not, Renault 12 was in production for well over 30 years.

1965 Mustang fastback, with a 351C swapped in. "4V" heads, sourced from a Pantera, and a BIG cam. Nobody home power wise at low RPM, but above 3500, LOOK OUT!
After blowing through two C4 automatics, I put a wide-ratio Toploader behind the beastly mill.
The rest of the car was a pile of rust, glued together with primer.

61 VW Kombi for $500.00 (1978) and it was a rust bucket. My friends and I had so much fun in that bus!

1959 Renault Dauphine
The year was 1970. I was 12 years old. The car was given to me by a friend of my father. He replaced the Dauphine with a VW Beetle for his teenage daughter.
A few of us neighborhood kids had "Woods" cars. Cars we drove through the woods.
Not the actual car but identical.

1980 Datsun 210 coupe was my first car (something like 65 neck cracking HP...think I got it to 100mph downhill with a tailwind once!)...first car I ever bought was a spotless 1984 Audi 4000 w/manual transmission. Still probably my favorite of all my cars. Got it at a steal in 1991 cuz it was the year of the uncontrolled acceleration 4000's...got even sweeter when, 2 weeks later, I got sideswiped by a Saab and got totaled and I bought it back from the insurance co. for $700. Best $700 car I could ever own...just had to drive around with a dent in my driver's door, a crumpled area over the front fender....no biggie for a broke recent college grad looking for a job.

1976 VW Type II Transporter - inherited when my father passed in '84 - Made probably 100 trips between Tucson and the Bay Area when I was in college and before moving north - loved that bus - even fully loaded it seemed like it could crawl up pretty much any mountain in third gear.
