Come post in my stupid tire thread
Nail in the sidewall of my rear tire. Currently have Hankook EVO 295/30-18. They don't make that tire anymore (EVO2s now) and that size isn't available in an EVO2. Fronts are also Hankook EVOs.
Go down to 285s in the rear with EVO2s? Some other dumb solution? I really like the look of the 295s in the back or I wouldn't post a stupid tire thread. I also don't love the idea of going to mismatched tires.
SO, post in my stupid tire thread. Even occasionally be helpful.

Buy 4 new tires and sell the 3 good ones on Evil bay or something. Autocrossers won't buy an Evo tire. Nor would I expect track junkies.
If it makes you feel any better I broke a belt in my 10 ply truck tire, $$$$ and had to buy new tires as well. I just threw the other away and make my self think the truck rides Sooo much better on new tires.

I thought my Evo2 225/35ZR-19's were fat. Can you take a closer photo of how the wheel looks with the 295's before you junk 'em? I'm curious to see how it looks on the wheel.
As far as the Evo2 - they're better tires than then Evos in my opinion (I - apparently because I don't know better - autocrossed them on my 986). The sidewall is stiffer, which addresses the imprecise handling complaint with the previous version. I had to slightly overinflate the Evos to compensate for the sidewall flex, and I do not have to do this with the EVO2.
Even when they're cold (so grip and pressure are down a little), they're decent - I came down the mountain Monday after the car spent the night outside, so at the start of the drive both the tires and the road were about 40 degrees, and they were fine - but, of course, better once they got up over 100 degrees F. Some of the other extreme-performance summer tires I've had in the past were bricks when cold, and thus were terrifying to drive on cold pavement.
I probably won't buy the EVO2's again, but that's only because my tire store doesn't stock them, and Tirerack's "preferred installer" in my area utterly failed to get them mounted and balanced - apparently, they don't normally work with "wide" tires, and after 4 failed attempts, I was disgusted and took them elsewhere.

Hooray!!!... Three simultaneous tire threads going! I assume you've seen the comments in mine?:

I agree, I wouldn't go with mismatched tires. Sucks, but I'd still go for 4 new ones.
More helpful tips:
* Make some very expensive tire swings for the neighborhood kids.
* Take up tire art as a hobby. Here's an example of some cool yard art you can make:

I warned you the thread was dumb. Shocked at how useful the responses have been so far. Kcattorney must still be asleep. Wake up and be dumb with us kc.
Found a used tire., but it isn't near me. Considering that as short term solution. I don't track the car at all. In fact I am approaching KK level disuse and have considered selling it.

Install the new 285/30/18 & enjoy the increased acceleration a shorter tire provides. Nothing wrong with better tires on the rear.

Big fan of the Direzza ZII Star Specs. I'd suggestion looking into them as an option possibly.
