Ya gotta get this done. Driving around all day today and all I could think was "man, the throws seem so long for a sports car". Probably because I was paying so much attention to it, but a shorter crisper feel has got to feel so much better and is what the car needs.

So Pelican, at approx $150 vs $4 -$500, why wouldn't I buy the Schnell unit?

If you've driven around with any aftermarket short shift kits before on other cars, you may not like the stock 997 shifter. I found it was hardly noticeable in short throws, although the feel was much improved.

The Porsche factory short shift kit is nearly identical to others on the market (B&M supposedly manufactures the kit for Porsche). The EVOMS one has great reviews as it's a great kit all around. I'm not too well versed on the Schnell unit, but I've been told that their unit is longer, doesn't have as short of a throw, and uses different material than the EVOMS one. The throw is quiet reasonable. It still manages to tighten up the action very well while significantly reducing the shifter free play. Otherwise, if you're wanting to go with B&M, I have heard great things about doing the B&M Shifter, and the EVOMS Shift Link. (Not sure why it's reading unavailable as it is available, will change that).

Excellent. Good info. Thanks for responding. Will make my decision soon. Cdn dollar is hurting right now, so it makes the endeavor a bit more painful.

Actually, I agree with Quad. The stock 997 shifter is a great and cheap upgrade. It really makes the shifts feel just right, not too short and notchy like aftermarket crap.

Agree as well.

997 Shifter and finding some metal shift bushings make this upgrade perfect for not a lot of money.

"So "Ben" has developed a ssk with ball bearings at a fraction of the cost of aftermarket manufacturers? The ball bearing version being better than other systems? "

Yes ,ball bearing systems are more durable and less friction. Depends if the advantage is relevant to your situation. Numeric obviously thought it was a better idea than the usual plastic cups for bearings ?
At $120 the "Ben" version seems low risk /high quality alternative.

hi all. Is Ben a member of Rennlist or is he on another site; ie; 986 "forums" ? I tried to contact him on the shifter kit but was asked for a new sign-in.
