I thought I purchased a car yeterday....
I have been looking for a car to replace my 02 C2 cab that I had to sell. That alone is an interesting story. Any way yesterday my wife and I went to look at a a silver 03 C4S that was advertised on rennlist. Test drove it and it was a nice car, negotiated with seller. We reached an agreement, looked each other in the eye and shook hands on the deal. I made an appt. with a local Indy for a PPI.
Next move was to arrange payment. This morning I get a text from seller, " I sold it to an ebayer good luck" This person did not even have the ***** to call me. I have called him but of course he won't answer. Pretty disappointing.
He was young and obviously had no idea what integrity or a handshake means.
Part of what I am saying is that just because you are dealing with a Rennlister that doesn't mean they have any idea what integrity is.
Any way I am back in the hunt for a 02-04 C4S coupe or Targa or an 06 coupe that is a Tip. But not black or white.

That blows. I have lowered my expectations so low for people that roaches can jump over the bar without the help of a pole. If it were me, I'd post his name here in a New York minute.
All the best with your search.

What a jerk. But.....when the ebayer doesn't come through with payment I wonder if the seller will get in touch with you??? Then you can tell him to go pound sand .....But until then your search continues and a better car will come along. Fingers crossed and all the best in your search.

That sucks - sorry to hear about that. Good luck with your continued search.
When he's asked to ship his car to Randomstan for someone's brother and he realizes it's a scam, tell him to go forth and multiply.
DT - coltswitch if I remember correctly.

rbc - you met him. How old was he? Apparently too young to understand what handshakes mean. They're just uncouth, and the money is gone to make them relevant in the neighborhood again.
The rest of us can, and already do, much better than these shady tour guides. They will remain coolies.

3rd time a charm
I bought a 911sc 3 times over last year over the course of 2 months, each time the price went up a few bucks, really frustrating but third time was the charm. Found out his meds we're really messed up, he was 70.
Things happen, there's another out there. While this was going on I bought a gt3 for track and I drive the 911sc 3-4 days a week as my dd over the summer.
Think positive a better one is right around the corner!

Why didn't you put a deposit down with the handshake? I always do and so does anyone that ever buys anything from me. You are old enough to know, money talks.....
A handshake is nice but if you back out, what does the seller supposed to do?

I would have honored the deal. That being said, your offer was technically a contingent offer due to the PPI. If the ebay buyer is buying without a contingency (PPI), then I can understand (somewhat) the desire to go with the ebay buyer. I almost always shake hands with someone when departing. Imo is right - you should have put down a deposit.
That being said, he at least owed you the chance to remove your contingency and commit to the purchase immediately. Also - absolutely no excuse for not calling. Karma is a bitch - it will come back to haunt him. Plus, in retrospect, can you trust anything he said? Who knows, maybe he didn't really hand wash the car every time (like he claims on ebay) - and then what would you have on your hands? A non-hand-washed POS - that's what!

Sorry to hear that. I've been through that before with other purchases. In a few cases, the guy came back to me after the other deal fell through. I never re-offered.
