Default 265 or 285 rears?

I've always run 285/30 on my 18s. But Pilot Super Sports are only available in 265/35.

Thoughts?

If you want Super Sports, 265/35 it is. Won't notice any difference.

I ran 285/35 PSSs on the rear. The overall diameter actually gives you a more accurate mileage reading in your cockpit. Also, the percent variation is within 3%, so totally safe. You can barely notice the difference and thanks to a bit taller sidewall, it feels smoother.

My car had 265/35 on the rear when I got it (Toyo T1R). When they wore out I switched to 285/30 (Yokohama AD08R). I much prefer the Yokohamas, but the Toyos worked just fine. The Super Sports come highly recommended, if you can find them.

I just recently faced the same dilemma and went for Michelin PS2's to maintain the 285/30 18" rears... Very happy... No complaints!

Either should work fine. The 996.1 used 265/35's and 996.2's used 285/30's.

on 10J wheel 265/35 look rather bad, a bit of stretch and seem to be too small.

Agree depending on wheel width. On a 10 inch wheel, 265 wouldn't have straight walls. I never like that when the tire is stretched out.

you can't get 285/30 PSSs. You have to go 285/35.

Looking at a few different brands specs. I would think a 275/? would be the ideal width if you are looking for a nice squared sidewall. A 265 is a slight stretch and a 285 is a little bulged.

Pretty sure the press kit mentioned 265/35R18 as standard up through MY2001. It was updated to 285/30 with the .2 update. Majority of 996 owners say you should be just fine.

285's... because walking out to your car with big fat tires is awesome. I'd put 335's on there if they'd fit.

Miami - looks like you are running bigger wheels.
