Need advice: which suspension for daily driver 996 MK2?
Hello,
My front shocks are tired (rear looks ok) on my 996 2004 with 67,500 miles. I am thinking changing the whole suspension this summer.
I am almost decided on going to an M030 RoW kit from Carnewal but I am concerned by the height of the ride. Since the car is my daily driver, I don´t want to have issues because the car is sitting too low.
So far with my standard suspension I haven´t had any problem. So I like to have some feedback from other members on their M030 RoW experience for daily driving regarding ground clearence or if they recommend to go to a US M030. I am decided on not keeping the standard suspension, I want something firm.
Thanks for your help.

Several folks have done the ROW M030 swap and commented that the ride wasn't much lower at all - maybe 1/2". In other words, you probably wont have any problem with clearance. The M030 is firmer (whether you go with the US or ROW version). Good Luck

It made absolutely no difference in my ride height. Granted I use my car as a daily driver so it is probably a good thing that it didn't lower it but I was hoping for a slight adjustment in ride stance and didn't get it.
So get the ROW M030 as it probably is your best choice for a daily driver.

There is very little difference in ride height. The ride with the 030 is quite stiff though. I recently took my car out from 2 months of storage. After driving the Lexus for a couple of months and getting back in the 996 I was surprised at how rough ride is. I am planning on switching to coilovers this season - mainly for the track, but am hoping it smooths the street ride somewhat too.

Had the ROW030 on. Didn't mind it around town. When I added H&R springs, it got a lot stiffer and floatier at speed.
If your goal is to keep as close to stock thats definitely the way to go. If you're looking for more track/street then there are a lot more options and opinions

+1 for the h&r street performance coilovers .
A big step up in performance from the mo30 for not much more money .
Excellent bang for the buck .
Daily driver and track capable
All German made , bilstein made dampers
1 to 2.25 inch adjustable drop
Tire rack has good prices on h&r kit

If you are going to track or AX your car under PCA rules, going with a non Porsche suspension will move you out of a Street Stock class.
In our Zone 8 rules, in Street Stock, you can install any factory options that were available in your model class for USA delivered cars. They do however specifically exclude ROW options, must be USA spec. So a USA M030 is fine, but the ROW M030 would move you to a prepared/modified class, as would any non Porsche suspension such as coilovers
The same could be true with other organizations

I have row springs on 04 C4S, they lower about 10mmfront/15mmrear, just enough to make it look level and slightly lower. Very slightly stiffer. The shocks are whats going to make it hard or soft. If you get a hard shock be prepared to ride hard all the time.
I would (go by cost) get the row springs and shocks fro porsche, after all they are standard everywhere else in the world. otherwise H&R are the same springs as the stock porsche row springs

I got a new VW Sportwagen recently and really noticed going from that to the Pcar was a big difference in how bumpy the roads feel.
On smooth hgwy no problem but Bridge decks and some of the ruts on Burrard dwntwn pull me all over the place!

I have not found a kit, just ROW kit. You can order all the parts individually
What are the paint markings on your springs?
That will determine if it is USA spec M030 or ROW M030
Please have a look and post what you find.
I have read that the 40th anniversary versions are lowered 10mm, but have also read that the USA versions are not
To my knowledge, the only difference in the USA and ROW versions is the height of the springs and struts have less length because of that. I have heard you can use the USA struts with ROW springs
I think our 2004 40th AE has the ROW M030 as standard and it is FIRM ...holds the road well at speed etc but on bad roads - which Vancouver seems to have PLENTY it's bumpy.

I installed the ROW kit on mine last fall. Got about 3/8" drop, car is firmer but not painfully so and it stays so much flatter it was well worth the upgrade. There is a transition from a bridge to roadbed with a fairly good drop and it is on a turn that I cross every day. The car used to diagonally pivot and felt a little loose as it went over the bump before ROW, now it just drops and stays planted.
BTW, I did the swap over the weekend in my garage. Not a huge job, but you'll know you spent a couple of days wrenching.
