Hood/Deck lid shock replacement
I'll be ordering a replacement strut for the rear deck lid soon as I'm finally tired of the darn lid slamming shut unexpectedly.
Any "secrets" to how to remove the old strut or install the new one? (FYI-the wiring harness for the spoiler appears to rely on the strut for routing.)
Thanks in advance.

I have a spare Id sell pretty cheap. PM me if interested, and ill see if i can find it.
No real tricks to installing it, just need a small screwdriver to pry off the clip retainer

I used a scribe pick, a piece of wood as support and a screw driver as RGrove stated. When I replaced mine, I just undid the plastic clips on the harness retainer, then the two metal clips on the strut assembly. Easy job and no more deck lid falling on my hands or head when working back there.

Might be nice to have a spare pair of hands to hold things up while you're doing the R&R, but other than that it's pretty simple. Just be careful not to pry the clips too far or they will fly off!

I just replaced the hood shocks on my 2002 996 last week. I basically followed this video.
I bought the shocks from Pelican - you don't need to reuse the retaining clips from the old shocks. It's best to get a thin straight screwdriver to pry them up and off. The new shocks just popped on.
The rear shock is essentially the same. Thanks to my indie Jason at ATXAutosport for showing me how.

Super easy, just did both front and back last night. Bought them on Amazon and fit perfectly. Just have a thin flathead screwdriver and maybe a mallet if you need to tap it to get between the clip and body. Literally a 10 minute job to do all 3 if you have a helper.

i got frustrated just watching that video! lol.
did mine a couple days ago...
use only 1 long handled screwdriver with a small enough head to squeeze into the clip.
dont worry about popping off the clip. the new shock will just pop right on with no prep
pretty easy peasy
and once on youll realise how bad your last shocks were. mine actually raises by itself now once lifted past half way up. no more banged head!
