Default Spying on my rear spoiler

This may be an obvious way to check if your rear spoiler is raising at 75MPH, but I thought I'd post it anyway.

As you can see in the first photo I just taped a piece of plastic pipe on my spoiler about 8 inches or so.

Then in the second photo you can see that it can be seen from the rear view mirror when it raises. Simple but effective.

So today after owning my 996 since Dec. 2015, I confirmed my spoiler does indeed deploy at 75mph.

That's pretty funny. I'd use a GoPro instead.

Y'all must be short. I can see it in the rear-view mirror. It pops up whenever it gets excited (by passing through the 75mph threshold...)

I'm 6'3". Can't see mine cause i have a replacement top with the glass rear window which is very small and sits higher up than the stock top w/plastic window.

That said, I'm pretty sure I tried to view it with the top down and still could not see it. Hummm...maybe I was not smart enough to look for it when the top was down. I'm gonna check next time I have the top down. Mama always said I wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.

In any case, my previous post is the "Gold Standard" method (pat. pending) for checking the rear spoiler for those who are less privileged and can never even dream of owning a GoPro, have the top with a small rear window which prevents them from seeing the spoiler, and are too stupid to realize it might be able to be seen with the top down (this is yet to be determined).

I'm 6'-1" and coud not see it in the mirror. I knew the motor and mechanism were OK because the OM told me there was a manual switch on the fuse box cover to operate the spoiler manually. Yuppir I read the OM!! OK enough back patting. So my solution was to go for a ride with a buddy and he stuck his head up when we hit the magical 75mph and confirmed the function of the spoiler! That was the last thing that I hadn't checked for operation so now all systems are go on my car, uhh except for the IMS that I'm gonna replace out of an abundance of caution.

If only I had a buddy

One could fly a camera equipped drone above one's car while driving and film in real time....cost prohibited due to drone purchase....

One could hold up a sign with a message for the car behind them "Did my spoiler pop up ?"....this however requires trusting the person behind you...and he may not have a pre-written sign with him saying "Yes, your spoiler popped up" or a dry erase board and marker to write down there answer. They could just give you a thumbs up instead.

Given the inherent problems of other methods as noted....is why my "Gold Standard" method is used world wide...

I'm 6'5" and couldn't see mine with the top down. I had my wife drive, and I half way stood up in the passenger seat to see it. The downside is I had to let my wife drive the 996. She has the Camaro for entertainment.

Haha I'm lucky I guess, my wife won't drive the 911 because it's a 6M. She can drive it but she was terrorized by our 1986 944 turbo on the hills in our area and has never driven a manual again. Lucky me!!

My wife drives the M6 no problem. She just prefers American muscle to German exploding engineering.

It's the Porsche Conundrum. In a coupe' you can see the spoiler...in a cab you cannot...

OP...it's much easier to pass a shiny black SUV and check out the reflection.

But your way is more fun!
