Alarm goes off when using key to unlock
My fob has expired and I have to use the key to lock the car. Until recently, I seemed to have had a 10 second delay which allowed me to get the key into the ignition and prevent the alarm from going off.
Now the alarm goes off the minute that I unlock the door. I don't think anything has changed, but clearly I am doing something wrong.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction (other than getting a new fob)?
Thanks

Your fob has EXPIRED? Do you mean the battery needs replacing? I never heard of a fob expiring. You have 3 and a half thousand posts and probably know many more things than I do about these cars. Please enlighten me more.

this happens to me all the time as I don't drive the car. the car goes into some sleep mode after not being driven for a long period of time.
check your owners manual, this is all covered in it.

Are you turning the key the right direction?
For me if I lock it by turning the key once to the right and then unlock turning once to the left I have about 10 seconds to get the key into the ignition or the alarm starts. If I lock the car by turning the key left then right the alarm always goes off when I unlock the car. It's weird and makes no sense.

Remember, the door lock is mechanical with the key blade. So if you turn the key to the left (forward) the car is unlocked, systems ready and awaiting key insertion to read the RFID pill in the key n the ignition ring. If you do that (turn key left in the door lock), and don't open the door and insert the key, but immediately turn it right (towards back of car), that places it back into a locked mode, alarm set, but the key with the pill in it has not been "read", therefore upon unlocking the alarm goes off. Seems strange, but I think I like that. If someone managed to get a key blade cut and tried to get into the car, I would want the alarm to go off. I know there are places on the internet where you can send them a picture of your laser cut key blade and they will send you a new, matching laser cut key...just from the picture. But it will not work to start the car because no RFID pill that matches.

There is a bad connection on the the board in the key. This is a known issue as the solder can degrade over time especially as the board flexes a little bit when you press the buttons.

Expired" as in "bereft of life," "rests in peace," "pushing up the daisies," "joined the choir invisible," "shuffled off this mortal coil."

Same here. I store my car off site and it definitely goes to sleep after several days when locked.
Stick the key in the ignition immediately once you unlick the car. I 'sometimes have 5 seconds, sometimes, the alarm just blares instantly.
My car has a personality and is sometimes cranky when I wake it up!

My 04' C2 does the same thing when I unlock and open the door with the key blade the alarm goes off.
Always thought it was odd if that's the intended behaviour.
Maybe my key has passed it's expiration date? Haha

IDK if this is the same thing, but when my car sits for a week or more and the remote will not click the door lock and turn off the alarm, I always unlock the door with the key but not open the door, and then use the key remote and it will lock the door and press it again and the doors unlock and alarm turns off, everything else is normal use.
