Default Possible to fit 991 seats into a 996?

As the title says. I have a lead on a set of 991 Carrera S seats that I could probably get for a decent price from my indy who converted a customer's car to a race car. I have a 996 Mk1 Carrera 2.

I haven't asked how the seats are optioned, but I'd imagine they're power/heated/etc (my own seats are power/heated/memory). I wouldn't expect memory to work, but I'd want heat/power adjustments to work, at least.

Is there any chance of making them work, or should I give up and stick to looking for 997 seats?

I know this is a super old thread...but any answers? I'm thinking of doing the same.

Thanks for searching, I Imagein it can be done, but I would be surprised if they looked like they belong there.

Hi

I have 987 seats in my 986 and they look great. 991 seats would look fine I think.

So I'm discerning this by looking at a 996 seat wiring harness and a 991 seat wiring harness for sale on ebay - the connections look to be different. If you were motivated to try this you'd have to figure out how to adapt the older 996 input to accept the "new" 991 plug. Maybe there is a way to remove the plastic connector and swap it to the new harness but I cant help you with any of that. We've got a few wiring mysteries going on here on other threads so maybe one of the electrical gurus here would be able to talk through the project with you if you wanted to pursue it further. Here are the pictures I'm looking at - 996 on top and 991 on bottom.

With time and money, everything is possible.

True that! But I find myself with less time and way less money
This is not high on my list...but would be cool to do someday.
Thanks all.

Find some non-heated, manual seats and you should be able to make it work without too much trouble.

The wiring harness is different between the 997 and 996, so 991? Yeah... Doesn't mean it can't be done, just more of a pain in the butt. FWIW the 997 sport seats are WAY nicer than the standard 996 seats - I imagine the 991 seats are as well (I've actually driven a couple 991's but don't really remember the seats specifically...). Generally speaking all Porsche seats are pretty good, but we just can't leave well enough alone in the quest to make our cars "better"...

I've just seen a post where a guy fitted 991 seats in his 997, so that must mean they will bolt into a 996.

The bolt holes are the same from 996-991, the issue is wiring. Additionally, the 996 doesn't have airbags in its seats (at least the 986 doesn't...) but starting with 997/987, airbags were integrated in the seats. You will need to make sure you leave that unhooked on the new seats and if poking around with power or a multi meter, you don't want to set off the airbag.

I have 991 manual sport seats in my powered memory seat optioned 996. The previous owner had them wiring up the tilt function and they work great.

Tom, I’d like to do the same thing on my 996, but I’m wondering how the guy that put yours in got around the seat occupancy switch? Retrofitted the original 996 sensors to the 991 seats? With 4-way seats all the power needed is for the single rake motor, so that should be easy enough, but the cushion sensors are the question here.
***I just did some checking and it seems the 996 does not have a seat cushion sensor, it’s in the seatbelt receiver, so I wonder if yours were changed as well?
