Default Old lady got a facelift

This summer I decided to give the old lady a facelift and take care of some needed work. I have had her for 5 years now and driven about 20k miles in that period.

Early on in her life I did all the things to make her safe, and reliable for the track. I also re-valved the original shocks and change spring rating to 600/800 with 4 inch ground clearance (top of tires hidden by fender). Great for the track but too harsh on the road.

The first step in this process was to replace the brake caliper pistons. The ceramics were starting to crumble and some were loose so OEM pistons were replaced with solid aluminum.

To give her a better ride, I replaced the OEM re-valved shocks with Ohlin R&T. At first I set the ride height at the Ohlin recommendation but I felt she sat about 1/4 inch or so too high. I reduced the ride height an additional 9mm so fenders are about even with top of tire (about 4.75 inch ground clearance). I liked this look better. Ohlin also recommend setting the compression and rebound at 10 clicks, I use 6 in front and 10 in rear. After this, took to shop for alignment and corner balancing.
The ride difference is amazing. I really love hove the ride was transformed, compliant, soaks up bumps, but still firm. Highly recommend this change. I then went around the car and tighten all bolts to roll bar, seats, et etc etc. No more creaks and rattles. She rides like a brand new car.

After this, I took her to the shop for the facelift, painted the front bumper, side skirts and mirror caps (plastic parts only), and replaced the windshield. I wrapped the hood with a carbon fiber wrap. I really like the new look. I am in love again

the Ohlins R&T is a sweet setup, and also agree sit too high at the recommended setting
I've got 40k km's on mine now, very happy... sending out for preventative refresh this winter
Enjoy!

So far they are boxed up and in my garage addic. Set to match 600/800 springs.

Very nice update. I've been reading about re-valving the stock units with different spring rates, but Ohlins is an interesting option. Looking forward to a track review of the suspension.

Thanks for all comments.

I will highly recommend spending $2500 on Ohlins vs, 12-1500 on re-valve of stock. Feels much better on street. Houston roads are all concrete so very harsh and lots of bumpy seams.

Should be back on the track next months, I will give feedback then. Local track is bumpy so it will be a real test.

Looking good! Front splitter is sweet!

COTA will be awesome - nice and flat! ABS will be going crazy at MSRH - but it'll still be fast!

I added Ohlins earlier this year based on other reviews on Rennlist. I think Rob's review pushed me over the edge (thanks Rob!) and I couldn't be happier with the results.

I can't quite put my finger on it, but I do like the black hood. I have had my car nearly a decade so maybe it is time for a change. Maybe I'll copycat your ideas

It's a Joe Toth splitter, can now be purchased through Tarett.
