As you can see by the pics below, my guys are hard at it. Engine and tranny are out, and the points where the straight coolant pipes fit into the block, are in the Parts Cleaner. I have the BBI Coolant Pipe upgrade kit...there are no elbows, only straight heavier gauge aluminum pipes. Where can I get upgraded elbows? Need the info as soon as possible.

Mooty may be right, Sharkwerks may have... I know they make the 997 specific pipes/elbows.... think someone else makes the 996 ones too...

I sent them them an email last night, they responded within an hour. I was told, "This part is not required or compatible with 996 GT3 models (which already have a metal tube)." This is mentioned specifically on their web site. They do make an elbow for the 997 GT3. So once again, thanks for the RL support. Someday I'll be knowledgable enough about the 6GT3 Mk 2 to post an answer, not just a barrage of questions.
BTW Sharwerks does NOT recommend welding, pinning is their approach. They have a technical article on their web site that goes into their reasons in great detail.
I'm with John here...use the inserts where you can but weld the original inserts on the curved pieces. I think there's 2 that are curved. Make sure you pressure test the welds before they go back in the car.
as you already have the info, those sharkwerks elbows are 997 specific as they have plastic pieces that go into the oil cooler where the 996 has metal. The other end of those metal fittings (away from the oil coolers) are the extra 2 fittings on the 996 that need welded over the 997 (8 vs. 6).

Sharkworks makes a good case for pinning vs welding. We like to think as a weld as being the ultimate method for joining two pieces of metal, but welding may be less reliable than pinning. Sharkwerks explains the issues Pinning vs Welding Coolant Fittings
More information. Another assumption is that pinning only prevents catastrophic, but not small leaks. But my friend, an Adhesive Chemist, explained that like everything else, these coolant fixtures and tubes have to be engineered as to fit and clearance and other factors. In this case it may be the clearances between the fixture and coolant pipes are the problem. If the clearance is too large or small, the adhesive layer is too thick or thin and that is the reason that the connection fails. So pinning may prevent both small and catastrophic leaks.
The real culprit may be poor quality control in the manufacturing of the coolant pipe diameter, not unsuitable adhesive. (of course my discussion is moot since the fact is, a certain small percentage of those connections will continue to fail and one can not predict which ones will fail and the result can be very costly and dangerous)
