Default Intro - New to the GT3 World!

Hi Everyone,
I've been a member of Rennlist for a few years, owning a 1986 944 Turbo. Over this past weekend, I picked up a 2005 Black/Black 996 GT3 with 22,000 miles. This has been my dream car for a while so it's somewhat surreal to have the car in the garage!

Car looks incredible and is in great overall shape. Definitely have a weeping RMS as disclosed by the selling dealer. The car has not been driven much over the last few years so I'm hoping a more active life will shore up the RMS a bit. Will also need to invest in new tires. Looking forward to learning as much as I can about the car and the GT3 community.

Thanks!
Brian (Philadelphia)

Nice! Can't go wrong with a 951 and a 996 gt3! (I love both platforms...Have a red 944 "turbo look" with a v8!). Unless its starts hemorrhaging oil I wouldn't worry too much about the rms weep. If it gets worse instead of better, just take the opportunity to pin the pipes (if not already done) and upgrade to the rs clutch and lightweight flywheel. Def. a worthwhile mod imho (I went with the 996 rs parts and loved it on my former 996 gt3 and will do the same when its time on my red one).

Haha. No major upgrades/mods planned at the moment. I definitely have my eye on the ClubSport perlon OEM seats but they are nearly impossible to find and pretty expensive. First priorities are new tires and seeing where this RMS leak takes me.

I feel like the car is so visually perfect as-is. The headlights get so much hate, I think they are just right. Love the narrow-body too!

Yup, I haven't changed the visuals (does the cup front lip count?) although BBS E88s are on the list for track wheels. I've got the Perlon buckets and they're just right IMO.. highly recommend

Can you post a pic of your cup lip spoiler?

this is the best angle i've got.. black is hard to photograph. also see the 996 C2 cabrio to the left with no spoiler and higher ride height

Thanks for posting. Interesting. I don't have a picture off hand but the dealer mentioned putting a new OEM spoiler on the front lip. Looks exactly like yours!

Welcome! There is a wealth of knowledge on this board. Many of us are long time owners and have experienced a lot of things with these cars. And others here are just plain smarter at cars

The OEM one looks the same to the untrained eye but side by side, the cup lip extends down about 25% more than OEM. They are also a different material, the cup is quite flexible and smooth textured, OEM is less flexible and has a bit of texture to it. Lastly, there’s a distinct price difference, Cup is about $150 and OEM $700+!

Congrats on your acquisition, it will bring you a lot of joy. My old 996 GT3 was black too. I don’t really love black cars that much but man does it look good on the 996 GT3 (come to think of it, this car looks good in every colour).

Long time 944 guy also... like Scott i went down the V8 route as well. I've had alot of quick cars and my 951 with the LS1 was a rocket... 380whp/360tq, 2700lbs. But the 6gt3 is on a different level.

Mine is an '05 also, arctic silver.

And yea the OE front splitter is just under $500 shipped from Sunset. The cup splitter is $250 shipped.
