Default PCCM Plus in GT3 or GT2 ?

Has anyone upgraded to one of these in a GT3 or GT2?

I feel like I read somewhere there may have been some issues.

Any feedback?

Thanks.

Though I do not have one, two friends do and they have been happy. No issues that I am aware of.

I installed one in my GT3, install starts at post #42 → https://rennlist.com/forums/996-gt2-...l#post17914062 In my opinion, the unit was really made for 996’s with amplifiers or a BOSE Most system. Our GT3s have neither, which I believe results in a high noise floor (or slight white noise) when the unit is on. You can’t hear (or rather, I can’t hear) the white noise when the car is on. You also need to be careful where how you route the wiring harness when re-installing the head unit. The first time through, I had interference on the rear speakers. Pulling the head unit and tucking the wiring neatly behind the unit solved the problem.

It is nice to have CarPlay. I drive this car more than my 997 because it has this head unit.

Advantages: plug and play. Looks/is OEM.

Disadvantage: you can more for less with an aftermarket unit.

Love mine, no issues, 100% perfect integration and I had them hide the mic behind the factory position to the left of the Voltage Meter

I want to add my 2 cents for the sound quality.
I fully understand that the sound in the gt3 wasn't made to be good or anything remotely close to that.
I wanted to remediate this and installed new alpine speakers in the back and Kenwood in the front. to be honest, there is some improvement but its still very bad to be honnest.
I did the same in a 996 C2 i have and that has the bass in the door panels and there it really made a huge difference.

So the 2 cents is that you need to add the bass in the door panel, then you will be very happy,

I would expect that the reason for the difference in bass has more to do with the added sound dampening material in the Carrera. Any extraneous vibration, particularly in the panel that the speaker mounts into will reduce bass.

When I installed my Kenwood double-DIN I did so for the GPS. It's just too loud in the cabin for critical listening of music and I would rather hear the engine anyway.

.
In general I would agree but I think it's just impossible to get any sort of bass out of a handful of 4" speakers with no tuning of the enclosures they are attached to. I have some Alpine 4"s installed with 3d printed spacers for the OEM speaker grilles along with the Continental TR7412UB-OR headunit and it still sounds empty in here.

IMO the best bet in one of these cars is one of those extremely slim subwoofers you could tuck under a seat. Anything I could see would bother me. Something like this: https://www.crutchfield.com/S-x1Ovml...gaAqKcEALw_wcB

Is there a single DIN slot radio with carplay available except the pccm classic?

I replaced the head unit with a Pioneer AVIC-Z140BH, the 4 stock single cone speakers with two-way Focal 100CA1-SG (using the frames of the stock ones), replaced the door panels with stock ones with the speaker grill and sound chamber w/ PioneerAVIC-Z140BH two-way speakers driven by a separate amp and a powered Kicker HS woofer. Mostly listen to the 350+ CDs loaded on an Apple iPod.

Kept the stock CDR head unit and door panels to include when (if?) I sell the car.

what can I say, I like my tunes - ;>)

This. PCCM+ for me and Spotify gets the job done, but the cabin is a loud place to be. I am not an audiophile but it is noticeable that the sound quality of the factory Bose system (even with the rear-subwoofers and amp) is from a different era.

All part of the experience for me I value having Waze + Google Maps + Spotify and handsfree texting + calls with carplay

... a 100% Porsche OEM setup is also very important for me, I did not consider any aftermarket solutions.
