I was watching a 996 GT3 video (posted here https://rennlist.com/forums/996-gt2-gt3-forum/1388704-cool-996-gt-cup-rsr-videos.html#post19241308) and he installed 996 Cup intakes where he described the noise as being sublime etc etc.
Any opinions on this and does anyone know how to get their hands on it?
Yes, I saw the same movie and have been looking for this kit ever since. My thoughts are that it's a 997 gt3 mk1 kit and it fits a 996 as well.

The 996GT3 OEM airbox and large panel filter is virtually 100% efficient especially at the relatively lowish 360whp or so. I wouldn't mess with it. You can go dyno the car with and without the airbox and you will not notice any difference whatsoever. The area that Porsche improved which gained about 15whp at speed according to Preuninger is the RAM air intake on the decklid which effectively pressurizes the airbox. Porsche employed the RAM air intake on the 996GT3RS decklid and all the 997GT3 cars going forward. With that said, I will be posting an OEM 996GT3RS decklid with the RAM air intake and carbon wing assembly for sale in the very near future. Decklid is white with baby blue "GT3RS" lettering and the wing is clear carbon. Extremely rare OE stuff.

I say just change the air filter to more free flowing type vs doing cone type configurations. It’s a street car and compared to cupcars is quite different to street cars and ecu on a street car has more limits. A cone type ie more air can confuse the ecu meaning via airmass sensor and it starts to stutter. Ecu tuning is for the birds on these cars ie save your $$$ for suspension !!! It’s all static hp if you dyno imo. Won’t feel seat of pants. You want that go for shorter ring and pinion which makes 1st gear abit useless especially matched with a Lwf. Zings up fast.depends what you want with car. Anyway google for factory 996 cup intake .. that picture is aftermarket stuff .
If I recall looks like this with reverse vents on rear deck lid but that requires ecu tuning .. don’t even think cupcars have an amf.

I think there is some real merit to the 2004 GT3RS “ram air” scoop that powdrhound is referring to. I had it on my previous 996 GT3 and you could really feel it maintained good performance at higher speeds versus not having it on my cup car. Has anyone worked out a way to fit one without drilling into the deck lid?

I literally did this over the weekend. I tried 3m vhb tape first. It felt solid and it wasn't going anywhere, but without a little more pressure the ram scoop didn't really conform well to the shape of the decklid and didn't meet my aesthetic requirements. So I drilled one hole (in the center rear) of my decklid to be able to insert a bolt. This allowed me to tighten it down and really close the gap (and ensure that no matter what it would never fly off), but then the leading edges at the ends of the scoop started to rise a bit, leaving a small gap that showed the tape. So I'm going to remove it and drill two more holes corresponding to the leading edge bolt holes inserted into the scoop. Removing the vhb tape would require a re-paint anyway I suspect (it is so strong) so its not really a big deal to get the peace of mind and aesthetic improvement that comes with three bolt holes and bolts. that's how I looked at it anyway. I'll post pics later.
