Default 996 GT3 Brake Pads Recomendations

Hello everyone. My car is finally getting closer to completion. After a major overahul, the front suspension, transmission, engine, etc just went through all the necessary stuff (tranmission had a money shift at some point, hoses were replaced, seals, etc.). Now its on to the brakes. New pads were put on some heavily grooved rotors to sell it. With my travel schedule for work, I don't have time to do many track days. If I was going to track it regularly, I would buy a set of rotors/pads specifically for those days. With that in mind, what is a good set of pads that are more street oriented, but give me the option to do some light track duty/autocross? Is it best to just go with the factory pads? Appreciate all the input.

I've used the Hawk pads for street and have almost zero dust.

Great recommendation Marv. Are the Hawks noisy? I may give those a go. My pagid (don't recall which version) pads are noisy and dusty and are overkill for the street. I can swap them back in for track days.

No squeaks, no squawks, no scrapes.

Quite and clean. Also, you can ride these to a complete stop and not feel the stop with just a slight modulation of the pedal.

I will note the EBC Red for 996.2 GT3 application does not fit without modification in the rear if you are considering those. The pads are great on the street but they did require a bit of fettling to install. So yeah, you could say I'm basically recommending Marc's Hawk pads.

Awesome. I just got my new dimpled and slotted rotors. So I'll be right behind you.

Interesting. I didn’t have any trouble with mine. What modifications did you have to do?

Your low dust comment is a welcome surprise. My car has 1 mod, Pagids and they are mega dusty.

I'll try the 5.0s and report back in a few months. I've driven a friends Z06 with the 5.0 pads and performance was very solid.

I will be due for new pads soon. I have been running Ferodo DS1.11 for a couple of years which have been OK. Looking for alternatives as they have risen in price quite a bit since then. Pagid is always popular. PFC was a go to choice a number of years back but not many seem to run them on their 996 anymore?

The rear pad sensors would not fit. It's certainly possible EBC has fixed this since I complained to them. Aside from that, the fitment is fine.

This was my main reason for giving the Hawks a go. I also run pagids, and the car doesn't stay clean after a wash for more than a few drives. So much dust. And loud too. I'll just swap in the pagids for the track days as its so easy to do when you are swapping wheels anyway. The pagids are overkill for my use on the street anyway. Brake dust residue is my pet peeve...I just hate it. Makes it impossible to maintain a clean undercarriage too. The scud carbon ceramic rotors are so nice because I literally never have to wipe down the wheels between washes. I've considered converting to pccb on my car for this reason alone (and the reduction in rotating wait).

Ah, that explains it. I don’t use the pad sensors.

Pagid yellows in the front black in the rear. Three or four track weekends a year. Car is great under braking from 150 mph on the track. About ten thousand miles in the last three seasons and just about ready to replace the pads and front rotors for the first time since buying the car in January of 2021. Yes they are very dusty 🤷‍♂️
