996 Gt3 stock muffler replacement
2004 996 Gt3 stock muffler noisy rattling and needs replacement. Non track use and value preservation.
Options:
1. Can it be replaced with "generic 996" muffler or is the stock Gt3 muffler required ? (Dismantled muffler $200 vs new stock from Germany $ 2100)
2. Replace mufflers with aftermarket i.e. Fabspeed
Thanks for any input.

I ran c2 fabspeed mufflers in my car for a while. While they fit i had to fight them some to make them work. I would think the larger factory c2 mufflers woiud be more difficult.
I think either used or aftermarket gt3 parts r fine for the exhaust. U just want to make sure they sound decent with no drone. I went with a used big bore 997 fvd system. It fits well but the muffler brackets r not 100 correct.

- How many miles?
- How do you know that it is the muffler that is rattling? i.e. Did you eliminate the converters as the source of the rattling noise?
- Which 993 wheels do you have on your 928?
- Regarding 996 muffler...most likely not.
- Besides, a 996-muffler-jury-rig will not give you "...value preservation."
- The two models have different motors, thus the mufflers are different.
