Check your Manthey Top Mounts
Got the car out of the garage to get her ready for an upcoming track day at the Nürburgring. All was good until I spotted a slight problem…
Oops!
It got worse!
Imagine if that had happened at the bottom of the Fox Hole
Luckily I was able to resolve the problem quite quickly…
New top mounts from Design 911
And back on the car with the shocks and springs thoroughly checked for cracks and leaks
She does need a clean…
Anyway, I am happy that I caught it on time. Every single corner was cracked on both mounts. Not happy - they cost about EUR1500 from Manthey and have been on the car for 20,000km. Of course Manthey don’t care - if it ain’t a 992…

Yikes, good catch. Looks like it could be stress cracks from the stud being pressed in/over torque/age. Does not look like there is a lot of material between the stud and outer edge of the Manthey top. Granted flexing of the steel strut mounting points at a different rate than the shock top could also present an issue.

Ive got those same black aluminium billét top mounts from D911. Good looking bit of kit

Looks like it! I honestly expected better... The actual uniballs are in great condition, thus I will remove them and have the mounts made again from duraluminum. The new mounts will have thread to mount bolts and not studs. I have to give it to Manthey - I don't know who their suppliers is besides a lot of Porsche Motorsport parts on the car, but their uniballs on various suspension arms have lasted really well...

Most likely Hirschman uniballs. Real good stuff.
On this side of the pond we r lucky to have suppliiers like Tarett and Elephant Racing that make real nice camber plates at good prices.

I use the OEM 997GT3/Cup top mounts. They are a direct bolt in on the 996GT cars. These have the Hirschmann helm joints and have been trouble free for many years of track use. The GT3 versions will have the studs in the standard configuration, the Cup versions come set up for high camber. You can press the studs out and install however you wish prior to install.

^^^ those look very similar to the 996 GT3 top hats, which are identical to 996 cup (including configurable offset stud position for camber gain). Both look to be a much better design than the Manthey or D911 ones IMO.

The 997 ones are symmetrical while the 996 ones are asymmetrical.

It would appear the 996 top mounts are no longer available. Are the 997 ones a like for like replacement?

Shameless plug but i have a set of used factory 6-3 front top mounts with good bearings that i would sell for $300 shipped.
