I was driving yesterday when I spotted what I thought was a GT3. I drove up to see and it was an older 996 with an aero kit. It got me thinking why Porsche would have a great car like the GT3 look just like a $35K 1999 996.

The GT2 has a couple of features to distinguish it from the 996 TT why would the GT3 not have something to distinguish it from the NA 996.

I really love the GT3 and we all know there is no comparison between that and the 996 but the look is one thing that has kept me away.

Just wondering if anyone feels the same?
i guess you didnt notice the GT3 badge, skirts, wheels, wing, front bumper, red calipers,no back seats and no sunroof...yeah...looks just like it...what features does the GT2 have to make it so different from the turbo??see above,wing,bumper..etc etc etc etc

I'm not a GT3 owner, I have a C4S, but I imagine that it helps that the $70K base 996 looks like a $100K car to most people anyway. And for the people that do know enough about 996s to know that a base 996 is actually $70K, almost all of them know are going to know that a 996 GT3 is a $100K car. So you're really talking about, IMHO, less than 1% of the people that would see a $100K 996 GT3 and think it was a $70K 996 C2. What do you guys think?

i think you either care about posing or you dont. if anyone wants attention for their porsche from people who dont know cars very well just that its a " porsche" get a 1985 944. My mother had one for 17 years and i last drove it in 2002...still got waves, thumbs up and nice car comments....then i sold the car for $2,500....!!!!!!!!!!

I thought the best feature of the GT3 would be its stealth but in reality it seems to have a definite presence at every traffic light or on the highway. Something about the way the motor revs. and the wicked stance. I am seriously considering debadging it at this point, but I doubt it would help.

Anyhow, a ***** cat looks like a tiger cub but there is a beast waiting inside one of them.

Rgds,

If I was blessed enough to own a GT3, I wouldn't have said it any better.

Those that know can tell a real GT3 from a fake one. Those that can't tell don't care.

I also live in an area with a lot of P-cars and I thought hardly anyone would notice my GT3 from all the other 996's. Wrong assumption! It's not just the body kit that sets it apart, it's the whole aura of the car that tips people off that something is different about this one. Most people notice right away that it's got a much more aggressive stance and sound (the spoilers and rollbar help too).

But, as the others have pointed out, that means little to me also. I bought it for the driving experience.

When I see a poser, I don't get upset. I usually laugh and then I feel sorry for them.

You know the 911R looks just like a regular 911, except for some very suttle differences.
The 92 Carrera cup car looks exactly like a normal C2 except for the lowered stance.
The Carrera GS again looks like a normal 356 except for the engine lid louvers.
I see it as pedigree

While i don't have a gt-3 My car has the Aero Kit I - hopefully i'm not a poser. I d like the aero kits (both)
it does not have any badging btw.
my 2 cents - YMMV

Should the GT3 be more distinguishable from the 996 like the GT2 is from the 996 TT?
Yes they should be more distinguishable, and they are, in spades ! All one has to do is drive the respective cars and you will feel the difference. If what you mean is should they LOOK more distinguishable ? IMHO, no. I take a somewhat perverse pleasure in the fact that the average person can't tell the difference.

You'd only be a poser if you slapped the GT3 badge on the back. There's a huge difference between looking like a GT3 and trying to represent your car as one when it's not.

I like that it looks like a 996. The people who know what the car is appreciate it and the ones who don't know, leave you alone.

and i always clarify i don't have a GT-3(or 2) on the "list"
A cup car kinda counts - i guess - maybe

geez i have a little more dialed in that (camber) - a little darty for my wife (she is driving it tonight, while i' stuck in sunny florida)
