Default GT3 looks like 996

Does it bother any GT3 owners that your $100K car looks just like a 996?

I was driving yesterday when I spotted what I thought was a GT3. I drove up to see and it was an older 996 with an aero kit. It got me thinking why Porsche would have a great car like the GT3 look just like a $35K 1999 996.

The GT2 has a couple of features to distinguish it from the 996 TT why would the GT3 not have something to distinguish it from the NA 996.

I really love the GT3 and we all know there is no comparison between that and the 996 but the look is one thing that has kept me away.

Just wondering if anyone feels the same?

I don't own a GT3 (wished I did) but your issue wouldn't bother me, but you know what would?
A straight on shot of the new 987 looks identical to the CGT. Talk about a price difference.

one issue that does arise is people who 'fake' GT2/3 from lesser cars.

a 911 turbo is (relatively) easily converted to a GT2 lookalike

same with narrowbody 996s to GT3.

however, most enthusiasts can see right through the false disguise, as there is usually something the person misses modding.

that said, a GT3 drives VERY different from a 996 C2 with aerokit / minor suspension mods.

I know of no hot chicks who can tell a GT2 apart from a 996TT, or a Boxster from a 996 Cab. Come to think of it most guys can't tell either, so much tuner intervention and parts swapping goes on these days. You'll just have to live with the satisfaction that you did spend whatever money it was on your car and it performs in proportion to the dollar amount spent.

Truth be told, unless you're driving a Lamborghini Diablo or Murcialago, it all really does look the same.

Truble - a GT3 looks like a 996 because it *is* a 996. I can live with that and if people think I'm driving a $70K car instead of $100K, it's fine with me. I bought a GT3 to impress *me* and no one else.

Nah, it sure does not bother me.

The real value and appeal of the car can not be seen anyway. It is under the hood. And if people can't tell the difference from a "normal" 996, then they DO NOT need to know...

If I owned a GT3, it wouldnt bother me one bit. I wouldnt care if hot chicks didnt know it apart from from a BMW or a dress shoe. I would know it was what it was, and that would be all that mattered.

who cares ... im not a fan of 996 looks (actually i hate the looks), but both the Gt2 and Gt3 are serious cars that any porsche enthusiast will respect.
You are fortunate to have a GT3, so dont be concerned of the astethics and enjoy it.

Bob R- you took the words out of my mouth! I've never bought a car to impress someone else. For that matter, my black Cayenne S seems to attract as much if not more attention than the GT3...

Besides, since when it is "bad" to be a 996? It is a great machine that many will love to own...
