The C6 Z06 is a tough package to beat especially when you factor in price:
7-liter LS7 V8
500 bhp @ 6200 rpm/ 475 lb-ft @ 4800 rpm
titanium connecting rods and intake valves
aluminum heads
dry sump lubrication system
3.7 sec to 60 mph
200 mph est. top speed
3150 pounds
Only time will tell with regard to durability, and I really wonder how this car will handle at the limit. The bone stock GT3 is oh-so-smoooooooth.
The vette, however, just doesn't do it for me. Each to his/her own. The front end has a bit of Caddy CTS-V in it and I don't dig the interior.
And that Z06 badging with "505 HP" written on it??? I can't wait for the track reviews.
Cheers

Thanks for the excellent comparison which is what I was looking for. Obviously, Porsche reliability is
a hugh factor for track events. Its probably the only verhicle you can drive to the track, race it all day and drive home. Whether the General built in durability is the question. Given a pampered 04 GT3 is in the 80's and the Zo6 will be about 70's I don't see a big difference in price for what you are getting. If the z06 runs a low 7:40 at Nurburgring, case closed.

Ya, I wish I still had the 63 Vett and the Shelby GT350 I sold it for.

Ol Blackie stays. I will be burried in that car aluminum doors and all.

For me there's no contest. While its "sounds" like the Z06 is an awesome car, and chevy has done their homework on it,...its still a Vette.
And unless it comes with Jenna Jamison strapped to the hood,,,,,I don't want one.

JJB, you will have to let us 993tt guys know about your comparison of the new Zo6 and your
"almost stock" 993tt. Although very few 993tt's in the nation are as fast as yours...
I drove old Z06 and GT3 and both are very fun!!!!!!!!!!! Z06 == torquey, GT3 == fast if
your are a great driver (I am not), but fanstastic "feel", my favorite == GT3.

Not on the factory option list. I'm checking with the dealer but I have to have the paint protection and credit life to get Jenna.

I don't view the zo6 as a vett as much as its s 500 hp 944 turbo with front engine and rear transaxel. I've raced several C5 zo6's with 427 engines. One was with a Lingenfelter 427. All chevy faithfull were there to see it get slaughtered by ole blackie. In fairness, that car didn't have the develpment that the new Zo6 is suppse to have. Nurburing times due this week, we shall see.

It's going to be many months, maybe over a year, before you'll be able to get a Z06 for msrp. There's already a long waiting list at most dealerships. So if you're in a hurry, get a GT3.
