Something funny: in 2001 when my wife was lightly bumped in her '91 turbo, the accident broke the crank pulley, so we had the engine pulled & inspected to ensure it was fine. Just in case it wasn't I called Porsche to get a price on a engine: $84,000 for a new Longblock! 54k for a rebuilt longblock from Porsche, with a $1k core charge. funny...scary too!

Oh ya, these engines are not cheap. Brand new go for around 48 K . Re-built, with the same warranty as new , a little over 26 K. If you have no core, or if core is bad, you pay close to 33 K.
Ouch !

So that means that on the normal 996 Porsche was making at least $30,000 MORE on every 996 vs a GT3 and probably even more since the GT3 has a different (better, more expensive) tranny and suspension set up.
This all somehow makes no sense.

the dealer will quote $20k for the standard 3.6 mill, but with core exchange you can get them all-day-long for $8k or about $10k without. if the dealer says $40k figure half (best case).
