C-5 Z06 curb wt. = 3126 lbs. Aug. 2000 article
911 Carrera "S" = 3290 lbs. Nov. 2004 article

Folks-
My first GT3 weighed exactly 3036 lbs at purchase, compared to the Z06 weight of 3130 lbs. The GT3 RS I now sometimes drive on roads (now street legal) weighed 2997 lbs at purchase. Both are now in the 2700 lb range.
Cheers - Gerry

trumperZO6 this is a GT3 forum not a S or 4S big difference between those and a GT3. More body and all wheel drive.
GT3 empty weight: 3042 -3152 depending on options my corner balance weight 3133 with 1/2 tank.

Trumper we'll have to wait to see how the 997 GT3 rates compared to the Z06.
The GT3 with its 380HP, always out muscled the more powerful (supposedly) Z06.
So big deal Corvette built a 500HP Vette. How or why are you guys comparing it to Porsche's older models, ie 996 GT3 and 996 Turbo?
You vette guys might as well get all your words in now, b/c when the Turbo and GT3 comes out you won't have anything to say....oh except for the Z06 is cheaper. Big deal, GM woudn't sell one car if it was priced in Porsche range, so what are we talking about then, that the Z06 is only as good as its price?..And THAT we all know is CHEAP.

Gee Guys, Watt's been talking about his impressions with his NEW...
2006... C-6 Z06.
Looking at Edmunds new car list for Porsches...
I don't see the GT3 listed. My bad... I thought you would be comparing new cars that are currently available. Not last year.... or next year's models.

Race Car
Last night I drove my buddy's new Z06 and all I can say is WOW! What a beast. The quality of the exterior and interior is far superior than past Vettes, smooth drive and pulls strong for the entire range. 1st gear has one hell of a range to it. Sitting on 365 x 19 inch tires wasn't enough to keep from smoking the tires when punching it in second from 40MPH. There won't be any stock 6 cylinder Porsche's pulling away from this one.

This has become the muscle car list. We can all admit that the Z06 is fast and a good deal for its price. But its not going to become a great factory-supported race car, or compete in international sports car racing at the same level of intensity as a Porsche. And I think its ugly as hell, and built poorly, but that's me.
I hear that there are some great Corvette lists out there. To each his/her own, but this list is for porschephiles (the original name of this forum, circa 1992).
Go and have fun with whatever you own.

you can learn alot about the latent power of a brand from this -- the brand's meaning acts like a drug keeping brand loyal users from seeing the truth about its weaknesses.
i've owned a good 40 porsches now and expect to own more, but they better get off their ***.

Whats kool-aid have to do with it, there are vette guys that hate porsche, and so it goes...Big deal, the vette is faster,, so what? I am not one that wants to bash the vette, sounds like a great car. But its not for me,..maybe in the secondary market. But I'll have my Porsche Kool- Aid in Arctic silver

Watt, Get off their *** for what?
The point is the "mighty" Z06 (500HP) barely (by .1 seconds) beat the GT3RS (380hp) at NBR.

So what, the Z06 finally beat the GT3 at the ring. The GT3 attained the record back in 1999 and it took the Z06 6 years and an extra 120HP to finally beat it - real accomplishment.

porsche's race record is without a doubt the greatest in sports car racing...but you're only as good as your last race...in their class, chevy has beat porsche at le mans the last few years running...
