Your data are don't prove the point. Porsches have been dominant in GT2, even winning outright at LeMans (all classes). Chevy has never consisently supported either privateer or factory teams in racing (except NASCAR) over decades.
It still interests me that this seems more like a thread on socio-economics than reality. My family, who helped build the new Z06 says it sucks. I drove it and was not impressed - although I still ocassionally drive a 996TTX-50 with RUF upgrade and JRZ suspension - so I might be disappointed with the Corvette.
It is not about power, its about commitment to excellence. "Excellence was and still is Expected" from porsche (read the 3 volume book sometime, and then we can talk).
A very interesting bit of news was the recent poll of F1 drivers, including "seniors" who have stopped racing. 90% of respondents showed a preference for Porsche as sport racing (non-open wheel) cars, and thus was born the "Masters" series of ex-F1 drivers who will run GT3 Cup cars in their event at F1 races, following the Porsche Supercar races which also takes place at these venues. But I guess these folks don't know anything about racing.

my family is from spittal in austria, they worked for porsche in gmund before germany claimed them their own - so who cares if your family built chevys. re: ludvigsen's masterpeice "excellence was expected" i own the original single volume (bought it new in '77) and the recent 3-vol. set.
i voted w/ my dollars and bought porsche, but i dont have (keep?) my head up may *** either.

First consider how much a GT3RS costs compared to the Z06.
Then consider the difference between the semi R-compound Pirelli Corsas on the GT3RS and the runflat Goodyears.
Oh yeah- wasn't the GT3RS time around the ring 7:47? The standard GT3 was 7:54. My source is http://www.track-challenge.com I saw the translation you posted, but I read that article in Motor Trend, and they compare the Z06 time to a GT2, not a GT3.
At the end of the day, a couple seconds over ~12 miles makes this comparison pretty moot, but it is hard to ignore equal performance for 1/3 of the price...

Three Wheelin'
The Z06 with over 450 rwhp...around 500 rwhp with some mods, they are after the GT2 ...not the GT3.. don't even thinks the GT3 will keep up to this car..I love my GT3 but the 06 Z06 will drive away from it...even with an average driver.
I still run faster lap times with my old Z06..look at the T1 series Vipers, 01-04 Z06's..the GT3 has won 0 races.

Ok group buy to have lessons taught one on one by Wolf Henzler. That will take care of the average driver in the new Z06 at the track : ). Otherwise sounds like a great bargain but not for me. I sat in Corvettes before and not seeing the front of the car makes me think I just ran over a little dog and more importantly I don't look good in it : ). Regards. Mike

Since you brought it up, EPA rating for the ZO6 is 16/26, whereas the GT3 is 15/23...

Guys,
FWIW I own a ZO6 (2001) and owned a GT3. The GT3 was built to higher standards and just simply felt better. However the ZO6 is an awesome car with fantastic torque and it could only be better in the C6 ZO6. At this point in time it's probably faster than anything Porsche has to offer. Having said that I suspect that will soon change with the arrival of the 997 GT3 and the 997 TT...time will tell.

WOW! Comparing a C-6 Z06 ( ~ $ 70,000 ) to the $440,000 CGT ? David Hill said their baseline target was the Porsche TT and other cars in... 2 to 3 times the Vette's price range.
Now if Porsche were to enter their $440,000 CGT in the ALMS... maybe we would be looking at... Apples to Apples. My money would still be on the Corvette C-6R. In fact, the Pro-Drive Aston Martins probably would finish ahead of the Porsche.

Hey Trumper,
I agree with your first statement. However, what factors lead you to believe that the Porsche CGT would not be a competitive platform in ALMS GT1 (assuming a normal amount of development work to iron out teething issues and set-ups)? (BTW I'm asking this in the spirit of genuine interest, not trying to be a dork.)

ALMS Corvettes
Those corvettes are much more money in race prep than $70K. Even the consumer version is sometimes marked up to $100K these days, although they will probably drop to MSRP levels soon.
The Z06 that has been campaigend in race trim approaches that of the consumer price of the CGT.
