The rear transverse differential (not the front differential) of the 964 C4 was essentialy the same as the later 928 consisting of a clutch pack driven by an electrically controlled hydraulic ram which derives it's pressure from a high pressure source. The ram is controlled by a logic module and varies the % lock based on information from the ABS wheel speed sensors and the accelerometers in the control brain.
I think the Ferrari uses a similar system. with a more sophisticated logic loop. The drawings I have in a book about the 2000 Ferrari F1 car show a similar clutch pack in the differential to the one in the 928 and 964 C4. |

A description of the 964 system is here http://www.adrianstreather.com/docs/...overviewR2.pdf
Note that the Porsche progamed the diff to lock up during cases of oversteer- e.e to control handleing in addition to maximize traction. |

noteable features:
- same GT1 derived dry sump 3.6 L motor - no sunroof - rubber gurney strip on lower rear wing - lower mounting point for front breaks to reduce center of gravity - same brakes (dimension, pistons) as 996 gt3 - downforse generated on both axles! - improved brake cooling front and rear - navigation screen built in, ie wont add weight - sports crono thingy - maybe we can use to time laps from the steering wheel! - 415@7600 vs. 381@7400 hp - 405 Nm vs. 386Nm torque - 8400red line vs. 8200 - 8.5x19" 235/35-19 front wheels & tires - 12x19" 305/30-19 rear wheels & tires (wider) - clubsport package "no charge" (presumably in europe) - carbon fiber racing seats (look like the CGT seats) - alcantra steering wheel, shifter, seats - Digital speedo under tach in center! - 1395kg vs. 1380kg - 0-100 in 8.7 vs. 9.4 - PASM - adjustable shock valving - Traction control - variable ratio steering rack - wide body, narrow body? That would be a shame not to have it avail.....if the rumours of the RS being made avail here are even remotely accurate; it would stand to reason that the simple (by comparison) clubsport version might make it here as well......please....come on PMNA...enough of making us suffer!! |

WOW!!!!! That is cool looking. A cannot wait for them to come to us so i can see one. I like how they look a little more agressive then the 996 GT3 and seem to have more body cues to diffreentiate from a regular 997.
But maybe i am just crazy but those specs are interesting (also very exciting, heck i thought the 996 GT3 was fast) and seem to make it just as fast in some catigories i read on the 997TT in the March 06 issue of car and driver wich will do acording to car and driver : 0-60 - 3.6-3.7 sec. 1/4 mile 11.9-12.0 sec Top speed: 193 (same as GT-3) I guess poer to weight ratio is everything. Oh and thanks for sharing those pics. THis car better becomeing to the US

- The side airbags on the 997 GT3 are not located on the doors, they're located on the stock seats. Going with the CGT seats option removes the side airbags. The same reason why a 2007 CGT won't be available in U.S., is the reason to not have those CGT seats as an option in U.S. Expect to pay 6 grands for a pair of those.
- The ClubSport was a no-cost option on the 996GT3 outside U.S. The car won't pass DOT with the ClubSport package, so no ClubSport package here either. - A variable steering ratio is garbage. Race cars don't use something like that for a reason. - 19" wheels? what kind of track tires is this car going to use? - 0-99mph in 8.7 secs can't be compared with a 0-100mph on the 996 GT3. I bet the new car is using a shorter R&P and shorter gears. That alone makes a huge difference. - Why is Porsche fitting the car with a 5mm spacer instead of making the rear wheel on the right offset? - The rear bumper and the wing are ugly. - Notice the picture on PCCB. They are using the uprights from the 996 GT3RS. - I hope it's just a TC with an on/off switch and not a PSM. - PASM? is this used on the Cup cars? - Only 415Hp? not good. This time the 997 TT will be a faster track car. The 997 GT3 is getting more weight and the 997 TT is losing it. The power difference is 62Hp. Expect the U.S 997 GT3 to come at 3160 lbs with an almost empty gas tank.

NJ,
We can always count on you for positive comments on the 997 GT3. As far as weight is concerned it's like carpeting you don't like in a home you love...very easy to change!! Besides compared to the 996 there isn't much of a difference.By the way the reason the US didn't get the CGT in 06 and beyond, has nothing to do with the seats, but the fact that the front air bags are not the new two stage ones. 415 bhp's is the official guaranteed number and any of us who had our 996 GT3's dynoed know that the official guaranteed number (381 bhp's in the 996 version) meant absolutely nothing!!! This new GT3 will be faster and better than the now old 996 GT3. Which I still think is one of the greatest P-cars ever made!! Cheer up guys it's not all doom and gloom as some may want you to think!!
