Default Help to convince SO to sell 993 to get 996 GT3!

So, I'm looking for a GT3 and I make the mistake of telling my wife that I am looking.

She comes down on me hard asking why I want to sell a perfectly good car, the last of the air cooled. You can never sell that car...etc.

I tell her that the GT3 is more of a drivers car and limited production etc...

She's not buying my story.

She says it's a daily driver and the ride is harsher, no back seats etc.

Arrg

I need some ideas!

Any suggestions out there?

Keep the 993. Buy the GT3. Problem solved.

Makes me laugh. My wife - though very decent about it all - does not get my wanderlust (only cars, only cars). Why sell a beautiful 993C4S to get a GT3 that is argualble less appealing aesthetically (she is a designer), not air/oil-cooled, 2 seats (now that the kids are getting bigger this is actually less of an issue as my 11yo no longer fits int eh back of the 993 easily), ugly dash, etc, etc?

No reason, and that is the point. It is emotion.

Annoy her enough, and she will say do it and shut up! Be patient... Or just do it. But don't hold it against her!

I went from a 993TT to a GT3. There are many times I wish I hadn't, but those are soon dispelled as soon as I wind it up. Nothing like the GT3 from 6000 rpm to 8200 rpm!! But that's also its weak point when used on the street. You can seldom get there.

I agree that the 993 exterior is better looking. Definitely disagree that the 996GT3 dash is uglier. One of the main reasons I moved from the 993TT was its absolutely egregious ergonomics. I came out of a '93 RX-7 (about 400 hp) with its spot on ergonomics, and was highly disappointed in those of the 993TT. A very small point, but one that I never could get over.

It is all emotion. If it wasn't, we'd all be driving Toyotas.

Yup, that's what she says. "It's a classic, the last of the air cooled cars."

We go to the Concorso Italiano in Monterey every year and she knows all the cars.

I'll just look for the right car and show up one day with it! Take my chances...

Do what I did and buy the GT3 before you sell the 993. Drive them both. Have trouble selling the 993 and work out a way to keep both. Remember, it's better to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

I went from a '97 C4S to an '04 GT3. I can not describe in words how much better the GT3 is in performance and plain fun to drive versus the C4S. It's just something you have to experience for yourself.

Make the switch, you will not be sorry.

I'm planning to make the switch. A TT and a C4S and not looking back is a great endorsement for the GT3.

With all this great input I'm glad to see I'm not the only one in this boat!

Now I have multiple angles of attack.

Don't think I can keep the 993 and the GT3 because I'm only allowed to have two cars (self imposed, I had three cars and it was too much to manage).

Just need to find THE car!

Tell her you can put back seats in for the kids, then when you get it and have sold the 993 "realize" that actually you can't. My bad honey, well better put in a rollbar for safety then

Sell the 993, buy the GT3 and then get separate bedrooms, problem solved.

Seriously though, how much does she drive it? If it's your toy, then she should understand. If she knows so much about cars, then she must know that the GT3 is a must have for the enthusist.
