Default 997 gt3.2 shifter or 997 shortshifter

Hi guys,

as you know im knew to the gt3 community. I feel my 996 gt3 a little sloppy when shifting.

i came from a 944t and c4s with short shifter and i kind of miss it.

ive read a few thread and there seems to be 2 good options for me.

either 997 gt3.2 shifter or 997 shortshifter

some people are matching the gt3 shifter with cup cables but i dont plan it right now, maybe later, i dont know cause its some big $

would it be better for me to get the gt3 shifter if I plan in the future to put cup cables or i should be fine and just order the 997 short shifter.

I also have a 997 alcantara **** coming to match my interior..

thanks for the help!

I would NOT put a short shifter in the car. Get the 997 GT3 shifter (the .1 is a little shorter throw as well). The previous owner of my 6GT3 had a SSK added and it was the worst thing, especially on track. THe 6GT3 box is just about perfect in throw and feel. Don't screw that up.

I have zero experience with the .2 shifter so I cannot comment on that. There are several guys that have the 7.1GT3 shifter here. Same as the stock 997 shorter but with plastic bits replaced with billet.

I have a regular 997 shifter if you want to come over to feel the difference.

997.2 has more metal then 997.1 like what I can see the ends are metal whereas the 997.1 is plastic. Same throws though- it shorter then 6 maybe 10%. Less sloppy due to less plastic but cup cables would make it even way better ie precise. Mike

What are the main complaints about the 6gt3 shifter?

I find that engagement is good for the most part, throw is fine. The one area I wish to imProve is feel. I have a hard time getting into second from third. It's pretty vague in that regard.

^with more plastic more flex. Didn't mind the longer throw but felt more sloppy due to flex. Try 5 to 4 gearshift at 135-140 down to 95 mph- it could well slot into 2nd- been there done that. I still cringe doing the 5-4 even with 7.1 shifter. Mike
