Default PFC direct drive rotor weight vs. Cup rotors *Updated pics - post #51*

This is in reference to 996-3 front rotors. I just broke out the PFCs and weighed them. I dragged out an old Cup rotor for comparison.

Burned up Cup rotor = 21 lbs (oops, did something just crack???)

Brand spanking new PFC direct drive rotor with hat = 18 lbs

Thanks to Dell and Chris L. for PUSHING me over the edge.

A few shots of the hardware...

RJ,

Where did you get them? I need pads, and want to try the PFC-01 x 4, Direct PFC + 7Cup rotors & SRF.

You can order directly from PFC or OGracing website. I got mine from another member.

I bought mine through HMS Motorsports and since then have bought from them and a couple other vendors. OG Racing now carries PFC and they have free shipping with purchases over $100 (and obviously no tax).

Welcome to the darkside Randy

Brembos are even lighter (6 lbs lighter than stock per).

and ceramics are even lighter.

I think the comparison is a money/weight compromise.

The monetary savings is what I like about the PFC setup. The weight (while less) is negligible. However, the rotors last LONGER than the cup rotors and the hats last longer than the Brembo hats. The Brembo is a true floating setup whereas the PFC setup is a 2-pece setup that does not move like a brembo floating 2-piece. It's a win-win

Floating rotors are a good thing, much less vibration transmitted to steering on trail braking. Lets you be faster, yea, yea. Never heard of the Brembo hats wearing out.

Direct drives are also great because they aren't as noisy as a floater.

You're kidding right? Those suckers need to be replaced every 3-4 rotor changes.

I just put the PFCs on, but the 0 degree weather and ice has stopped me from trying them out. Unbelievably frustrating. I got mine from OG. They say you must use PFC pads because of fitment issues. Pretty clever, eh?

maybe, but PFC pads are damn good.

no bedding required either. remember the days of having to format floppy disks? man, that was annoying.

Rob....great analogy! I got a good chuckle out of that. I guess that dates us a bit?

Clever? If by clever you mean they designed a rotor a pad to work perfectly together as one unit then yes. Why in the world would they design their rotor to run a pagid pad?
