Need a little help
A very good friend of mine is considering 2 different GT3's for mixed track and street use. One owner claims that his car has a added value because it is white, and white was a $5000 option on the 996 GT3. Is this true?
In return, I'll post pics of whichever car he chooses.
Thanks in advance.

Oh the crap people will say and lie to justify a sale price.
$0 charge for the following colors: Black, Carrara White, Guards Red, Speed Yellow. Then there were $825 "upcharge if you wanted an entry level metallic (Atlas Grey, Mignight Blue, Dark Teal, Lapis Blue, Arctic Silve, and Basalt Black). Then one step further ($3070) for a "premium" metallic (Forest Green, Cobalt Blue, POlar Silver, Slate Grey, Meridian, Carmon Red, and Seal Grey).

my 996 GT3 is Carrara White and no extra charge for the color...there are a lot of other things much more important than the color...roll protection, suspension upgrades...seats...belts...track wheels...etc...

Absolutely. Both cars appear to be very well maintained, and have seats, belts, roll bars, and more. Trust me, I wouldn't let anyone judge a track car simply by color. The color issue just came up in negotiations, and the $5000 upcharge didn't jive with me...

Well, color can be expensive.
I know GT3 RS prices can be all over the place. The difference between a white one and a silver one is a little bit more than $5000.

True. As mentioned above, I believe that white on the 997 RS was a charged for option, introduced later, and therefore deemed to be desirable and rare. However, with the 6GT3, white was not a $5,000 option as the the seller is stating. If he believes it is worth a $5,000 premium in the secondhand market, that is another matter...

white is an upcharge in USA, only for 997GT3RS.
any other model sold in USA gets white for free.
if anything, they should give a discount on white, way too common of a color.

Guys.
Thanks for chiming in. My friend is seriously considering the white car, and having this information in hand can only be a good thing. This is a perfect reason for joining this site.
Thanks again.

It might have been painted RS white rather than the other shade. They are different. If it's RS white, it's color code "900" and lighter / brighter. Park it next to a know Carrara white and see if there's a difference.
You can special order colors from Porsche AG, but I really doubt this one has that done.
My guess is the owner claiming the white option for $5000 is actually not the original purchaser, or somehow misinformed / confused.
