Question Quick-Release Steering Wheel

Has anyone installed a quick-release steering wheel on a street 6GT3? How did you deal with the air-bag sensor? Any comments on installation issues would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bill

I have...

I bought the wheel and qucik release from Gert and along with it, he sent a resistor... had a shop do it all for me and it worked. I have no idea the rating of the resistor. Gert would know

now you see it

now you don't

I have the same thing.

I believe the resistor is rated at 1.8 ohms.

I just have an airbag light on my dash since i did not install the resistor. No biggie as I don't really see it. If it bothers me I'll put a piece of black tape over it

FYI, here is my thread:

I've never really seen the point of a removable steering wheel. Are you guys fat? My steering wheel is quite happy where it is

Personally, the ability to get in and out easily is a HUGE plus. For those of us with long legs that are tall the removable wheel has made life much easier. In the past with the fixed mount I had to contort a bit to get into a race seat with the wheel in the way.

Ah, now I get it! You're all tall b@stards ! I'm a short **** at 5' 8" so the only issue I have is getting my foot past the front cage leg.....

Fair enough, as a vertically challenged man I couldn't understand.

Cheers!

Its nice to bring the wheel closer, but not sure I want to lose my airbag and have a closer wheel on the street?

Can you get a centre cap with horn in it?

The best example would be for you to move your seat forward and then try to get in. At least those that are not very tall can move the seat back, exit the car, and then get back in with the seat back and then move to a comfy position. I have to move the seat all the way back and have the wheel off to comfortably get in and out. However, it's not like I couldn't get it with the stock wheel, it was just more of a Cirque du Soliel routine

YOu can easily add the horn. You just have to get the QR with the wiring spline included.

As far as no airbag on the street. It's not a big deal since my car is 99.99% track.

I am tall and fat so having the wheel come off is a huge plus for me in terms of getting in and out.

I had my horn rewired to a blank switch -- you can see a wing up/wing down rocker switch in the "wheel off" picture above, just to the left of the AC controls -- that is now a horn button -- just another way to skin the cat so to speak...
