Mk2 front wheel 40mm offset.... why?
Hello,
Why the Mk2 996-GT3 and RS were the only models that came with 40mm front wheel offset?
Neither Mk1 nor 997-GT3 came with such a offset.
Please enlighten me. Thanks

Mk2 wheel is 18.35mm more outset than Mk1 wheel (thus Mk2 has 36.7mm wider front track)
Mk2 wheel is 13.0mm more outset than 997-GT3 wheel (thus Mk2 has 26mm wider front track than 997)
I think Mk2 must have different geometry uprights/hubs (narrower) so maybe Porsche had to make different offset wheels to compensate for the revised geometry. Anyone know for sure?
I think Porsche realised that Mk2 set-up was a mistake and decided to revert back to the original set-up for the 997.

I asked the same question when I bought a set of OEM GT3 wheels for my 996 Cab few years ago, having a been surprised to see the fronts were 8" and not 8.5"
The Cab is now sold so I have the set of OEM 996 Mk1 GT3 Wheels in silver (8" and 11" with very little sign of wear) FOR SALE.
Soon they will be in the classifieds along with a bunch more 996/GT3 stuff that I need to clear out of my basement.
