It's probably no consolation to know that when I had my 6-GT3 I ached for a GT2 and when I finally got the 6-GT2 in trade for my 3, I really missed the 3! Both were optimized for aggressive street and moderate track. They simply provide different experiences and are both stellar drives. I think the 2 was better on the street(low and mid range torque) but the 3 more fun(hi rpm, slick shifting tossability) and less intimidating on the track than the 2 -at least until you've had a lot of practice with it!

With respect to GT3 versus GT2 - for track I would go with GT3, but as Thushly noted the GT2 is very rewarding on the track when driven well! On the street the GT2 offers so much fun, short blasts, easy to power up to 550 hp or more and then look out. only your good sense and a smooth right foot will save your @$$! I loved my 996 GT2 and will get one again soon to put away - the last Porsche Turbo with no driver aids, just ABS and you! Here are some links to cars available: 2003 - $110k, 1.6k - http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false 2002 - $89k - 10k - http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false 2002 - Sienfeld Car - $128K - http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false 2003 - $89k - 10k - http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false 2004 - $97K - 10K - on Ebay Buy it now $78,995 - http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e&rdpage=thumb 2002 - $84k - 18k - I know this car and owner - very nice example - http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false 2002 - $86k - 20k - http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false 2003 - (new one) - $79k - 10k - nice car - http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e&rdpage=thumb 2002 - $95k - 30k - http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false 2002 - $79.9k- 31k - http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false 2003 - $68.9k - 34k - nice deal - http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false 2002 - $62k - 21k - accident history (front bumper, headlight, fender per seller) -repo'd by Porsche finance, fixed by Porsche - bought at auction from Porsche finance by seller - clean title - not salvage (per seller) - appears to have Ruf 550 kit - If it was repaired right and you just want a GT2 driver - this "may be" a great deal! Or this could be a great baseline for a pure track car. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...e&rdpage=thumb JCM |

Someone dug deeper on the 02 listed for 62k and found that the airbags went off during its incident.

having both a 03 gt2, and a gt3rs, i find the 2 a blast to drive on the street. cant argue w/ it's immediate torque, although you have to be really paying attention when aggressively driving it! the 2 is a bit softer. the 3 is harsher & more direct. would say the 2 is a street car that can be occassionally used on the track; the 3 is a race car that can be occassionally street driven. when going for a sunday drive, i usually opt for the 2.
