Question 996 GT3 daily driver?

Anyone doing this? My RS is on the way. My '02 will be sold. Out goes the '04 GT3 to drive daily and enjoy (no snow). How's life with the 3 on a daily basis? I can't wait!

Impossible to say. All depends on your driving and comfort demands. I know folks who would daily drive a cup car, and others who think a Lexus barely meets their comfort needs. Personally, in stop-and-go city traffic, I would not consider it. If I'm able to work in a few miles of country road, I drive mine.

You could. I just like the convenience of a decent stereo, being able to sit down with both hands full, not caring about coffee stains, etc. of my truck. Has nothing to do with NVH.

I love the sharp, firm feel of the car so from a comfort point of view no problems for me however from a safe parking without dings, easy access without scraping the spoiler, or exposure to vandalism or abuse from valet point of view then not always so good. We keep a beater for that. Enjoy if you can ... after all they were made to be driven!!!

It depends on how long is your commute? Where do you live? I live in L.A. so it's bumper to bumper on the 405 for me...

It is not really a great daily driver for most people. I love mine but I have 2 kids so that is a problem.
I also have it set up for the track; seats, rollbar, Track alignment, Hoosiers, numbers. So to run to work or the dry cleaners, the grocery store. it is a poor choice of car. If by daily driver you mean sunny days and summer days and dates with hot babes. Then it is a great choice.

I drove a Lotus Elise Daily for about 2 years (and not the cushy Fed Elise the proper early car with no carpet, A/C etc) and had no issue, however i find i cant daily the 996 GT3. not becuase its raw or harsh (its relatively comfortable and cushy in the cabin IMO) but because its just always crying out to be driven properly and i just dont enjoy nursing it around at 10% throttle all day.

Take from that what you will, but i just get quite frustrated driving it in traffic.

Daily driving a GT3 isn't that big a deal. Like some have said it all comes down to what is your comfort tolerances. That's not something anyone can answer for you. From my perspective, the GT3 isn't brutally stiff but it's certainly firm. If you don't ever track it, then you'll never know what you're missing. But if I recall, you're not a track guy, so experiencing that level of performance may not be what you're ultimately after. It'll just be a stiffer 996 with a high red line and nice engine sound track I guess, which isn't a bad thing at all.

What I've ended up sensing is a level of tolerence for lathargic people. These people need a porsche commercial once in a while with good motivation to buy one. If it is a commute in bumper to bumper just be sure to take a night once a week with clear hwys to crusie the car to clear out the oil and build up that might happen in the engine. Good excuse for me.
