Default Protecting your wheels question

I now have a tire rack on my trailer. Anyone have a suggestion about what to shim in between the wheels so they don't get scuffed up against each other?

I have used severaL things over the years.

1. Tire Totes to wrap the wheels
2. Cardboard cutouts to place between
3. Old beach towels that would have been tossed.

I don't have any experience with this, but I would be tempted to get some linoleum sheet material and cut to shape. Maybe add some velcro straps from the dollar store to keep them fastened to the spokes.

I was looking for something to put in between my wheels when stacking them for storage. I wound up cutting up yoga mats since I figured the foam would provide a bit of softer cushioning. But now I think a cheaper solution might be those 2x2' foam flooring mats, I think they're now like $10 for a pack of 4 at Harbor Freight.

All good ideas. I came up with an outdoor front door mat from Walmart. Cut it to proper size. Good? Only thing I am concerned about is the pieces flying away at highway speeds although I will ratchet strap the wheels together.

best is thick cardboard cut to shape, with a hole in the middle so you can push the tire securing rod through. i have tire tote, it protects mainly the TIRE not the wheel. as you put wheels next to each other and drive down the road, they still bang on each other.

Yeah but your tires are ginourmous ; tire totes cover 235 & 315s and wheels without issue

^ u know what, you are right.
i run 255/265 front and 315 rears. the scuffs are near the center of wheel where the tote couldn't cover due to wider tires.

The tire totes can also take a circular cut piece of cardboard to cover the entire face of the wheel/tire which the tire tote holds in place.

I have a set of Blackwatch tire warmer bags if you're interested. You can make a hole and put them on your tire rack. They completely enclose the tire and rim.

Cardboard is fine, as long as it doesn't rain. Then you get bits of cardboard covering your hood and I also dug some out of my rads.

I use that plastic corrogated stuff now. Think plastic "cardboard" you can buy at a sign shop or art supply store. Thick enough for cushioning and it won't fall apart over time.

Default i had a few kneeling pads laying around, about 8 x 18 inches>>>

punch a hole in the center for the lock rod. works pretty well, nice and thick with a built in handle.
