Where have all the 996 GT3's Gone
Is it me or has the used 996 GT3 Market dried up?

A friend of mine is selling his '04 GT3. It's set up for the track, but he does have the components to return to stock. Everything except the stock shocks, I think.

I was going to mention, if you have the money in hand, and want a GT3, post up a WTB ad; lots of off-forum or non-posted deals are made this way.
When good ones are listed, they usually don't last long.

It still a mistery to me who and how finds 996 gt3 cars in so-called mid-$40K price range. To my opinion those deals do not really exist and such sales were only happening in-between people who already knew each other perhaps.
cars.com shows usual amount (about of 10) cars in its usual price range of $60K-$70K. not worth it for me to shell out so much for a beaten up 2004 car but it is my personal opinion. there are more 2007 cars out there, I would look at those if you have a $70K budget available.

The very rare high $40k cars (I only know of 2 that were offered for that) were during the financial crush of 2008-09 -- and those cars had stories behind them.
Jim, you looking to sell or buy or ???

My buddy is having a similar problem in that all of the beaters for sale are dragging down the offering prices for his car. I've repeatedly told him not to sell, but he's still trying.
The other issue is that several prospective buyers just assume he's having financial difficulties and he'll take whatever he can get.

Hmm, I guess I was lucky. I just recently purchased an 04' GT3 with 28k miles in awesome shape for the upper 40k range. The only things I have had to address were tires and an alignment. Other than that, the car is sound. I suspect the clutch and LSD may be the next things to worry about in the future but from the check up with the dealer she was given a clean bill of health.
Long story short, they are out there but I must admit I searched for about 8 months before I found the right buy. Patience is the only advice i can give.

6gt3 can be had from 30k to 100k. there's always strange buyers and weird sellers. look at me!
a good car should be in low to mid 60's right now.
in fact, personally i won't look at cars under $50k b/c i dont have the time to pick and choose from a pool of sub par cars. i am not saying there are no gems at sub $50k level, i am just saying that's rare and i have zero patience.
at 60k, you can be picky and find some real cherries.

Couple things pop into mind as well. First, these cars are in the hands of their 2-4th owners, the novelty of the newest/fastest is gone and perhaps, maybe with these owners for a longer duration than their original owner?
Second, they only made so many (IIRC 1100 Year 2004 and 2005 units for North America), some have perished through track/street accidents. Couple this with others that have been converted to track only machines, and you have a supply issue.

Yeah, too bad 7GT3 cars are not as much fun! So far only cars that had some serious $$$ invested have been at 65K (like Seth's car), others are mostly in the 50s, which is more like 20K less.
Frankly, for the track I'd still take 6GT3 over 7GT3.1 - now if we get in to .2 those are quick, but much more money.

Those headlamps are expensive and I like that my car will murder me if I ask it to. 997s don't do that.
