Any info on where to get this done? I'm considering having my OEM coils revalved/sprung.

I did this to my car and it is much better on the track. Many folks do this upgrade and all are very happy. The best thing is to get to know the car before doing an upgrade like this.

Default Revalve of OEM

The original equipment on the 996 GT-3 is made by Bilstein they have a US facility in California. You take em off ship the shocks to Bilstein and ask them to revalve (and they rebuild them as well!) for whatever spring rate you are going to use .I did this in 09 to my 3 and it worked wonderfully till I decided to install the Motion Control Doubles.I would be sure to get the springs exactly right ,the first fronts I had were to long and raised the ride height unacceptedably .At the time I did the revalve/rebuild Bilstein charged 75 bucks per shock. You might search thru Rennlist as I remember some shop was doing the deal turnkey and somehow eliminating the wait time on the Bilstein piece of it.

Is what I was hoping to hear. I had a set of PSS9s on my 996TT that were worked over by Bilstein so they wouldn't bottom out when setup to GT2/3 ride heights. The issue was turn around.

I'd like to find the name of the vendor who does exchanges... Looked a few weeks back and couldn't find it when I searched.

There's more to a good handling car for street/track than just shocks. Springs, as several have mentioned, are more important and not just the spring rates. Helpers, spring lengths all contribute to the results depending on what you're trying to accomplish. You can soften up the shock setting and sway bar settings for a more comfortable street ride if (big if) you're not running really stiff springs. Even with the street cars weighing inround 3200 lbs. I wouldn't go stiiffer than 500f, 800r(if you have a cup wing) for a street/track application....

PS: You can pay Bilstein to expedite....

speed read this thread and basically (in reply to your question) NO, you cant really do both with just changing damper stiffness, no matter how much you throw at it.

Smile Stock spring rates?higher spring rates:larger sways ?

Does anyone know what the stock spring rates where from Porsche on the 996 GT-3 ?I have heard stuff all over the map thought it would be a good data point AND does it make sense from a track handling perspective to add larger(stiffer)sways if you increase spring rates significantly?

I am looking to upgrade my suspension (6RS). I was originally planning on just getting the standard shocks refurbed (still might), I have no reason to think anything wrong with them, as car has had an easy life, but I just want it to be perfect.

Started thinking if i am going to spend the money might as put it towards upgrading the suspension. Intention being to improve compliance/ride for street driving, whilst having the ability to adjust/stiffen up for occasional track use.

Currently looking at JRZ-RS Pro, Moton Clubsport, MCS 2way Customs and trying to figure out the Ohlins options as well.

I'm based in the UK, but go to the US a lot on business (mostly Houston area), so as these parts tend to be cheaper in the US, any recommendations for dealers that I could spk to in TX or US dealers that could deliver to my office/hotel much appreciated. Obviously looking for a dealer that would be able to customise valving/spring rates to suit my application.

Thanks

Their damper guy is not particularly custoomer friendly, so hand on heart, I'd struggle to recommend him. however there are two other UK Ohlins distributors in the UK. I've spoken to Mick Gardner racing and found them to be helpful :

The three way adjustable dampers on my car are 12 years old now (though they were totally rebuilt and re-engineered using all Ohlins parts eighteen months ago) Without wishing to make outrageous claims, they're probably top of the pile even when compared against Motons (started by ex-Ohlins guys) JRZ etc. The damper setup on my car has been superceeded by the TTX range now :

http://performanceshock.com/index.ph...roducts_id=235

However there are cheaper Ohlins products available too :

http://www.roadandtrackbyohlins.com/...96_GT3_set.pdf

I looked at the spring rates on the R &T and thought they were too high for road use only.

As others have said, choice of spring rates and finding someone who knows how to setup and adjust the dampers properly, is key.

I'm not sure if the TTX setup is available for the roadgoing 996 GT3, if it is, it'll be expensive (circa £7K) but will be incredible if the old set up on my car is anything to go by.

Strange, I'm deep into considering this type of 6GT3 upgrade and missed this thread,
this is timely and appreciated. I should pay more attention.
Also, thanks Mooty.

Ken, talk to Chris M. he upgraded his 6GT3 based on recommendations from Mooty. I had a ride in it a couple of years ago at the Instructor day at Tremblant and I was amazed at the transformation. The car was so well planted with zero hopping around in the corners. I don't know what its like on the street though, Chris trailers his GT3 to the track. Since you drive yours often on the street you should keep that in mind.
See you in May at ICAR
