Default GT3 coolant expansion tank??

Just received a new coolant reservoir for my 996 GT3. By the sound of it there's something loose inside. Is there somekind of valve built in there which has some loose parts or what? I can hear that "rolling" sound (like a marble rolling) when I turn the tank upside down in my hands. Or is it defective already?

Two 996 GT3's blew their coolant tanks here last summer. Thought I should change mine befor it goes as well..

Smart.

I replaced my reservoir when I pulled the engine to have my coolant fittings welded. It was found to have a bunch of hairline cracks in the reservoir that could not be seen when the engine was in the car.

I was curios if that problem had ever come up before. It sounds like it is more common than I thought. Sorry I never held my new reservoir in my hand to notice what you have observed.

Mine was changed when the fittings were done. There is another thread on them. Pain to replace with engine in car.

Ok, I figured out it's the float for the coolant level sensor that's moving inside the tank.

I've heard that it helps to drop the engine an inch or so. Mine was changed when the engine was out.
