Default Battery Life Question

Hey guys,
When I park my car up seems I get about 7 days before the battery wont start the car. Is this normal? Time for a new battery? Recommendations for a new one?? I use a trickle charger to store it for the winter.

Thanks

Not normal. Most of the cars here sit for weeks at a time.
Ya, battery maintainer when it is stored for the winter.

from my experience, i would say it is the opposite of what you have experienced. Most owners of 996s complain of the high parasitic drain on the battery. The general consensus is to keep the car on a battery maintainer if parked long than 3-5 days.

Could be the battery, could be some parasitic drain on the battery, could be a combination of the two. These cars seem to have some even stock, but aftermarket accessories can often make it much worse.

Do you have an aftermarket electronic equipment, like stereo, built-in radar, OBDII plug ins, anything like that?

Do you remove the key from the ignition when parked?

Do you leave the car locked or unlocked?

To check the battery, pretty much ANY car parts shop will test your battery for free these days, takes a minute. Or order your own battery tester from Amazon for about $50. Pretty handy to have...

Get yourself a battery maintainer when not in use! You wont be sorry!

If your battery is two years old replace and use maintainer.

Mine could sit 2-3 weeks with no tender and not be dead with stock battery.

Now I have a 5 lb lithium battery and I've accidentally left it off tender for 4 days and still no problem starting the car.

I'd say you have an issue somewhere.

No aftermarket electronics.
Remove key.
I lock the car.
I have a MAC tools battery tester and voltage/Charge electronic unit. I can test it. Was just wondering if its time for a new battery.

I have one. Just usually only put it on when I am gone longer than 7 days. This was 5 days and it barely started.

Sounds like it's probably done. Our battery trays can fit a few different sizes, so you have a lot of options.

I think there must be something happening with everyone's cars but mine then. lol

The battery in my car is going on 5 years and it fires right up after sitting for weeks.

But wait...I never lock the car. Could that be it? Maybe the alarm is draining batteries?

I keep it locked up. I can try that.

I think I remember reading on here that when the car is unlocked, there is a *larger* drain on the battery than when it is locked with the alarm armed.
